Metric or Standard?

Post by usererror »

I am putting together a toolbox to keep on board and with all the holiday sales I'm doing pretty well so far!

Are the majority of fasteners onboard Standard or Metric? I don't want to get two sets of sockets if I don't need to.

Thanks!

Standard. Almost all of the bolts are either 7/16ths or 9/16ths. I actually just keep a small kit with a basic socket set, crescent, channel locks, and a #1 Phillips and standard screwdriver in it. All I've ever needed. Hardest part is finding real SS or Chrome Vanadium tools that will last in marine weather. All the cheap Chinese stuff rusts out immediately.

ON EDIT: I'm talking about the M, don't know anything about the 22. Sorry.

All the factory hardware should be standard. You should carry 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, wrenches and sockets. Just have a look at everything on your boat, some add-ons could be metric.

Standard for the boat. The engine and other gadgets added, who knows.

Thanks! The boat is wrapped up for the winter and I can't get back into it until spring time.

I was guessing it would be Standard since the nuts on the bow D Ring were 9/16 but I wanted to get other thoughts before I go out and buy a set.

I would love someone to come up with a Mac-specific tool like this roller-skate tool. http://www.skates.com/PhotoDetails.asp? ... tCode=RSEW

The ideal would be 7/16 and 9/16 at the ends and a small removable/adjustable wrench instead of the one shown. The tube would have to be thin enough to get onto the mast base bolt. I have ratchet wrenches and the ratchet does not fit onto that one. I like doing the least effort possible :)

A short-3.5", 1/4" ratchet handle works well in tight places--sorry, no metric conversion for the handle
