A deal or not a deal??

Post by bern »

Hi all
There is a 1971 Venture 21 for sale in my area ( a project boat) at a very good price.
But it has no sails or keel and the cabin is pretty much down to bare hull.
What I am wondering about is what do you think the cost would be for sails, keel and all the bits and pieces a person will need to get this in the water? Is it even possible to get new parts for these?? Or shop drawings so I can get things made to order?
Maybe even for free it's not a good deal??

Any thoughts out there

No sails and no boards? Run away. Unless they pay YOU take take it away.

It'll cost you more for sails than you can get a complete small boat with sails, lines, boards, outboard motor, trailer, and little things that add up like a compass and winches. Two or three grand should get you on the water in something that's ready to sail.

Concur - thats not a boat, its an unfinished box of parts. Free for haul away.

Finding keels for the older Venture models is a frequent thread topic - upshot is it is about 2000 USD to fab a new one
