We just returned from the HPCC 2013 at Havasu. We entered in the manufactures cup race and took second place. We were beat out by a bow spit at the finish line. It was very close.
The winds were almost non existent and the rotating mast did it's job on this 1988 26D. My GPS was showing .4, .6 when everyone else was in irons. My head sail was a stock jib.
The day before, we were hitting 6.9 knots on the gps and were washing the windows.
We had a great time at the HPCC 2013!

Kudos to you - my 2nd boat of choice would be a Mac 26S.

Congrats, I skipped the Manufactures Cup, as the winds were light my brother was homesick and I won it the past 2 years in row. Where were you when I raced the Long Distance and the All Makes races earlier in the week. Windancer was first in the first (83 boats) and 2nd in the second, though first went to a F-27 Trimaran which we beat in the first race on points.

It's nice to see a 26D perform and it adds to the folklore and I hope to the re-sale value.

Still my jury is still out on the roatating mast. I was hoping to race you but never saw you on the course.

Hey Newell, we did not arrive until Wed pm. The winds were too much for my crew (wife) on Friday.
Next year we will be there earlier and join in on all of the racing. From what I have hear, you are the one to beat. You took off like a shot on the LD race.
The rotating mast is a good mod and doesn't cost an arm and leg. Adjusting the shrouds is the biggest pain. I had to raise the hounds about 4 inches because I did not have the equipment to shorten the shrouds. The new hounds have the center connection point lower. You can lock the mast read the gps and then let it rotate to see a difference. It is real easy to hit 6+ and we rounded up trying for 7.0 at Havasu with Joni driving. I switched to a jib last year because I had too much power and had to roll in the genoa partly in. I could have really used it on Sunday...

Where do you hang out?

We are going to Chula Vista, Monterey and maybe San Francisco this year. It would be fun to go side by side with equal sails and see how the rotating mast adds to the sail shape. Oxnard is our port of call.

The classics are a boats that will hold there value for a long time. MacGregor's new boat used dynamic test info from my 26D. It should be in the water this summer. I spotted one like mine out here in the desert that has been sitting for ever. I need to get a new project boat to work on.

I inquired with BWY and was discouraged from doing this mod. They will sell the parts only if you order each separately so they don't induce any liability?

That's just another of the reasons I stopped using my furlers, when in doubt about the wind before a race I usually go with more sail is better and sometimes overpowered is the result.

Where do you hang out? I usually do a West Coast trip to Catalina every year but take the X. Have been to SD, Morrow Bay and SF but don't know about this year's schedule yet.

I found Windancer in AZ on Craigslist, no motor, bent mast and pink windows but cheap. I joke about selling her, but have had more fun with this boat than I anticipated.
