Swinging Mooring

Have any of you guys had experience with a Mac26x on a swinging mooring long term?

I'm begining to think that leaving my Boat on the water with Mast up, Boom off, Ballast full (& using tender) would make things a bit easier, especially when we're sailing on and off over several days.
Betty R is already antifouled, and taking her out onto the trailer once a month for clean down wouldn't be a drama.
Dropping the Mast would be no great hassle either.

I'd over winter her on trailer in a local Lock-up.

Anchoring a mac is always a bit of a problem in as much as they don't behave the same as the boats around you...many a time we are laying exactly 180 deg out compared to all the others....tide and wind effect and with no board or rudders in the water as they foul the rode but a mooring is different.The other thing we found and ours has the remains of anti fouling is the build up of critters etc growing on the hull.There's been discussion about barrier coatings if you leave the mac in water for extended times to stop osmosis/blistering and if I remember the presence of anti foul does not necessarily mean it has a barrier coat!!Discussions on this forum have been around the fact the mac is a trailer boat and extra measures have to be taken if leaving in water.We also looked at leaving our mac but security had me worried

I couldn't and wouldn't do it to mine, plenty do though but each to their own.

I've seen what happens to boats left out.....not good...between the birds,vandals,and more birds and offcourse sun/UV

Hi Martin, I wouldn't be mooring our without staying on board cause of the low life's out there. We knew of a friend of a friend who had his Motor Cruiser moored in the Pine River only for a week, when he got back to his boat not one thing was left on it totally striped and insurance didn't cover it cause it was left untended

I think I've found a solution
About 300 meters up the road from our House on St Huberts Island live an elderly couple.
They're ex-boaties, and are happy for me to leave Betty R on they're private Jetty every once in a while.
So on the odd weekend when my wife and I want to sail both days, we've got the option to stay aboard if we can find a quite bay or leave Betty R on the jetty and walk home (feed cat, use flushing Loo,etc).
The jetty is secure and sheltered. I can also secure lines fore and aft between piles.
All for $25
I may even be able to use the boat ramp on the Island.

Had a fab day today sailing on Broken Bay and out of the Heads.
Really pleased with how the boat handles.
Getting the hang of launch & retrieve now.
