Re: Southport Sail
We're interested in making that date. It's a big trip (2 days, with just me doing the driving), maybe with our Lab, and would involve taking time to explore the area and look at retirement real estate, which is the big motivator for the admiral (the boat is just something to tow behind, and keep me happy
). We'll see.

Just curious, how far of a drive is it from NY? It's about 1150 miles each way for us! Hope you can make it!

Re: Southport Sail
Got me beat, by 350 miles! It's about 800 miles and about 13-1/2 hours for me, each way, though that's an optimistic elapsed time given we'd be dragging a 26X with a Highlander (plenty of power, but short and light), and we'd have to get around DC without getting stuck in all that traffic, so I'd probably go a bit more west to stay away from it.Doug W wrote:I've submitted my time off request.Tomfoolery wrote: It's a big trip (2 days, with just me doing the driving)We plan on arriving Friday the 6th and staying until Thursday the 12th or Friday the 13th!

Re: Southport Sail
I should add that the Havasu Pocket Cruisers Convention is on my bucket list. That's 2400 miles and 36 hours driving time (mapquest estimate), each way! That's a loooong drive, and I'd have to do it all. We actually have some friend who retired to Las Vegas, so like the trip the Southport (also have friends down there), there's something for the admiral, and something for me, and as far as the friends in Nevada, well lets just say I'll be doing a LOT of sailing. And sleeping on the boat.
Seems they're not doing the HPCC this year, so I don't feel bad about missing it again, but hopefully by the time I have the time to do that trip, it'll still be a thing.

Looking at various Marinas, I see this beautiful BLUE
sitting serenely on Southport's Indigo Plantation Marina's website.

Yes I know those people very well. They bought that boat after going out sailing with the admiral and I. They are very nice people and am hoping to get them to join in this year.Doug W wrote:Looking at various Marinas, I see this beautiful BLUE sitting serenely on Southport's Indigo Plantation Marina's website.

Boat Name: TOMFOOLERY
Captain: Tom
Crew: Jeri (wife, er, admiral - yeah, that's right - Tom and Jeri)
Planned Arrival date:(if comeing for longer than the weekend) Don't know - it's a 2-day drive, each way, so would like to have a week there, with the boat in the water.

I'll need a place to leave the trailer, as we'll also be looking around the area for retirement real estate, and to visit friends in the area (Wilmington, mainly).
That is, if we can make it at all, but we're working to make that happen. Too soon to be 100% sure.

Re: Southport Sail
I recommend the Southport Marina on W.West Street. You can launch from their ramp and you can park your vehicle and trailer in their lot. That's what everyone did last year. I can't imagine them not allowing you to disengage your tow vehicle from the trailer for house hunting and such... presuming you'll be keeping the boat in the marina. Unlike the state run Wildlife Access ramps which don't allow trailer only parking...
