5mph (8kph) is max 1500rpm and thats going against current and wind, if no current or wind IMHO you should be doing a little over 1000rpm?, these boats are extremely efficient at low speeds and the honda motors are one of the quietest and most economical at low revs, much quieter than the etec.
At that speed you will/should not be creating any bow wave at all and will be very surprised if it stops you hearing any other sounds.[/quote]

Thats what I came up with. I figured 1500rpm tops considering prop selection.

We take the companionway hatch & store it behind the hinged seat. It is a pretty good fit and cuts the noise. It also solves the problem of where to store the darn thing. If you buy some rubber pipe insulation -- smallest you can get- from the hardware store, you can fashion a better seal for the bottom & edges.

Concur--it's a really good fit, and a simple sound deadener. You will get a little gelcoat markup at the bottom of the engine well, but not a huge deal.

In the military, sound deflectors work for our generator very well. We usually had to use sandbags to build it but it made all of the difference. Plus, I would imagine, if you put rubber gaskets on all hatches and cockpit seats as well as add weights (liquid is good) you could take some of the boats vibration out of it resonance. Just add inertia. The more you get things that are taking energy away from/being transmitted to will change the resonance freq of the hull.

Hmmm....Maybe I'm missing the point..but , In My life expiriances I've always seemed to enjoy hearing just a hint of the mechanics involved.....From the ticking sounds of the old Pan-Head I had , the steam turbines when I was steaming boilers in the Navy...As a cross country Truck Driver and even now listening to that soft whistle of the turbo on My Dodge Cummins lets Me know that " All's well" :D Ron.
