In Memory of Ruth

Post by 1st Sail »

I searched but did not see a post regarding the loss of Sumner's wife Ruth on 9-1-2014. I just happened to come across the post on Macgregor Owners. Sumner you have my deepest sympathy. I have followed the travels of you and Ruth for year's. Your travels and companionship were truly remarkable. I sincerely hope you will continue to sail on.

Wow. I didn't now. I emailed Sumner recently and he mentioned she was il and their sailing days may be over. I had no idea it was so serious.

My heart goes out to Sumner. He is a great participator on this forum and I have learned so much from him. I also enjoyed reading their travels and how great they worked together outfitting their boat. I'm in shock hearing this news. I think of all the canvas mods Ruth created and how much fun they had sailing on both their boats.

I feel Ruth and Sumner are a part of this forum. Ruth's mods will last on this forum. Prayers go out to Sumner and their family.

Wow...just.....wow.

I am shocked and saddened to hear the news, Sumner inspired me to make many modifications on my 26M. and I've enjoyed several emails and advice from him over the years. Yes a special couple together. Thanks for making this post.

Godspeed...

My sincerest condolences also, Sumner. What a great sailing couple you two made! I was always envious of both of your abilities and her obvious enjoyment working on the boats and sharing in your boating dreams. You were truly blessed with her. May she now rest in peace with the Lord.

Sumner

I'm so sorry to hear about Ruth. I was always impressed with her craftsmanship and obvious enjoyment of the boating life, and she will be missed. Outside of the legacy of work and play in these forum pages, of course.

I'm so sorry to read this news. What a wonderful partner Ruth was to Sumner over the years, as a loving companion and friend as well as helping him with projects, along the way accomplishing some amazingly beautiful work. I'm so glad he's had the ability to be with someone so simpatico and I hope he celebrates her life and her gifts in a wonderful way. I believe we'll all be united again in the end, so I'm sure they will once again share their lives - just in another place and time. In the meantime I pray he will find comfort in friends and loved ones, and in the fond memories Ruth has gifted him.

I'm still ripped up to learn this news. My heart is hurting. I felt Sumner and Ruth were part of our sailing family. Through his sailing blog I came to know both of them and admired their journeys. I was in constant awe of Ruth's canvas abilities. There wasn't anything she couldn't create and she did.

I also can't imagine the pain of losing a wife and close sailing companion. So many have to drag their admirals along, however Ruth truly seemed to enjoy sailing. They did everything on their boat together as a team. They named their boat after her daughters. Sumner always referred to their choices as "we", never "I". They were truly in it together.

Ruth will be missed by the sailing community. I'm so sad learning of her passing. Really really sad.
