Yes, that's us. You made the right choice. Going smaller would have been a big mistake. I've watched you youtube videos and have learnt alot from them. We've only done one overnight so far which was NYE. Fantastic evening of drinks, fireworks etc and then the storm hit. Dragged our anchor and hit another boat 100m away. Lucky for us the guy on the other boat stays awake when it storms as silly buggers like us drag and hit him. We hit his huge fender (50ft boat) that he put out. No damage which was great. Next time we will tie off to the shore also. Better to be safe then sorry.Mac26Mpaul wrote:Hi Lance,
Yes, I remember, your on the canal and have two daughters right. It must have been after you looked, I had some people decided they were coming up from Victoria to look. The day before, I decided to move the boat (mast up) to wash it and promptly hit the side of the house with a shroud and bent the mast LOL. The missus was really happy with me that day!!Luckily Cameron had one spare mast in stock....
Anyway, I didn't really want to sell (obviously) so we decided to delete the "For Sale" adds and to start planning some trips.I was going to buy something like a Sabre 22 but I'm so glad I didn't now as I know I would have seriously regretted it... On the Gold Coast where you are mostly motoring one way and sailing the other, its got to be the best trailer sailer out there (probably why Cameron sold so many), and certainly it is for those of us with children.
I'm not on facebook.

Re: Weight distribution.
Geez, glad to hear all was okay....
I recently added another 12 metres of short link 8mm chain to my 6 metres with 27 pound plough thinking all would be okay. Left her anchored out the front here with the 18 metres of chain and the anchor dug in deep, and checking one night after a bit of a blow, she had still dragged about 100 metres, very close to another boat... I shot out there just before midnight on my kayak to move it....
Went back to leaving two anchors out when I leave it out there.....
If there is gunna be any sort of blow, these boats need a big anchor and plenty of rode...
I generally try and make Southport for New years every year but couldn't this year because of work. Nothing better than a few drinks on the boat watching the fireworks. One year the police jetski came over and asked me to move a few metres as I was right on the 100 metre exclusion zone for the fireworks barge. I had had a couple of Rums but decided it would be better to comply rather than pointing that out - because at the end of the day, even though every man and his dog does it, it is considered DUI for the skipper to drink at anchor

That's okay, I think most don't know it. But yeah, having a few relaxing sundowners in that quite anchorage, is the same as driving your car while having a few. You have to be tied up alongside a jetty, or secured to a swing mooring. Anything else is illegal. I was told that even if you have a line tied to a tree on the shore, or even if you are dried out!
Someone told me that the boys in blue did a raid in tipplers passage one night going boat to boat. No idea if that is true, but I'm sure that a lot would have been done if it is because that anchorage is like a drunken nightclub half the time!
