Quick question. Im ordering a new genoa and cant for the life of me remember what side the uv stripe needs to be on for the cdi ff2 furler.. port or starboard. ..anybody?

Here's another bump. I had posted a response earlier, but then had second thoughts after seeing a pic of mine, and deleted it. So now I'm not sure which side it's on. My furling line is on the port side, so I assumed it spun the drum CCW to wind in the sail which would put the UV strip on the starboard side, but now I'm not sure. In the photo of my jib wound up tight, the sheets looked like they were on the port side, so the strip would be on the port side.

So I don't know.

On a related note, does it even matter to the furler which way you wind the furling line?

I'm going to my inlaws' house in a little, to check on it (I'm the caretaker while they're in FL for the winter), and my sails are stored in their living room, so I'll open the jib and take a look and report back.

My furler line runs down the port side of the boat and the UV cover is on the port side of the genoa. The furler turns clockwise when it rolls up. I cant guarantee what's on anyone else's boat.

My UV strip is on the port side of my jib. Here's a picture of it, on the floor of my in-laws' living room. The foot is at the bottom, with the luff to the left and the leach to the right. I turned the tack fitting corner over to show the logo.



So the furler must turn CW to furl the sail, which is what it looks like in the picture Ross or Gabe took of my boat at the MMOR IV a couple of years ago. You can see the sheets on the outside, wrapped around the port side.



Like the previous poster said, that's how mine is rigged, but I don't know about others.

Thinking about it, the can over the furling drum is fixed, with the opening toward the stern, so unless the opening is really wide, the only way for the furling line to exist the back without fouling against the can would be for it to come off the far side of the drum. With the line running down the port side, that would put it on the starboard side of the drum, causing CW drum rotation when pulled, putting the UV strip on the port side of the sail.

Oh, and the manual says the furler will work in either direction, so you have to know how yours is configured. If the line is on the port side, and the fairlead is also on the port side (to clear the anchor locker), then presumably the furler turns CW to wind up the sail, putting the UV strip on the port side of the sail.

I had provided the size a while ago on another thread. I had also though it to be 8 inches or so, but when I measured it was much larger...12-16 if I remember correctly. *That was on a jib though

Actually it makes no difference. The drum can be positioned so the sail can furl in either direction. My lines are port and UV stripe starboard.

P.S. There are screws underneath that hold the anti rotation bracket and position the drum. You will notice many holes in the drum for changing it's clock position.

I checked the width of my jib strip this afternoon, and it varies from about 12-1/2" to 14", but seems to hover around 13-13-1/2", both leach and foot. There's also an extra triangle of Sunbrella closing the corner, which measures about 12" each way above and beyond the two long strips.

I don't know if it's just the way they cut it, or if it was intentional. But that's what I got.

I would think any sailmaker would know how wide to make it for furling, based on the geometry of the sail.
