addition of a real time Chat room to this board?
Greetings,
I am also a member of the renegade cruisers baord and they use the same web hosting software as our site here, but they also have a real time chat room. It is a cool feature that I think we could also enjoy here. Is there any chance to add it to this board?
Here is the Renegade Cruisers Board site for example:

Rich and Lori,
From what I have seen elsewhere......
ease in use equates to easier abuse.they just change names...
Now, with delays intrinsic with editing, and sequential forums, we tend to attract only those truly with enough time to contribute insightful and germaine ideas.
and albeit closer to the expressed purpose heath implemented this forum for.
Also, think how much good info would be lost if the great ideas only made it into chat, only to effuse into electronic obscurity and mortem for those who were unlucky enough to be watching at the exact moment those gems of ideas crystalized into something useful.

Just a note about this idea, it has been tried in various forms. It isn't bad for spontoniety(sp?) but various forms have been attempted, in our Mac community. I was a member a few years back of a group of us...some on here now, of people who got together and chatted real time via a microphone. Long lulls prevailed as people would just linger, and it turned out to be boring....really
Yahoo has a sailing room in their chat program, I frequented it, and it could be in the background during its many lulls also.
It wasn't bad, but some things need to be documented for longer periods for the benefit of all. Yes even some things here can be considered trivial but easily ignored. Only one person's posts come to mind. I don't wish to mention this genius's name in order NOT to conjer his future presence,as I sure his return is inevetable....unless he finally sells his Mac once he has figured out the Mac is the around the world capable cruiser, that it truly isn't!
I am not saying that format would'nt work, I am saying it hasn't so far in cyberland. Heck most of us are already so tied to a cell phone for example, I think it may be an option at birth to have a miniature one installed in bodies somewhere!!!
I am sure all will agree that a true phenomenon was created by Heath, and is probably the single most valuable rescource for Macmania that we have! He could easily capitalize with cd's sold of some amazing info imparted by many sailors with more vision and innovation than I posses. A great example of the free exchange of ideas are amoung these valuable pages IMHO!
The sailnet.net list is OK, I still subscribe, but found that format not as user friendly either, but some posts are forever saved in my computers memory from there also.....but far fewer than from here!
Maybe it could work, try it out!

chat room
I'm against it. The replies here tend to be thoughtful, considered, intelligent and helpful. If I want abuse, ridicule and smartass comments, I can talk to my wife's family or my left-wing friends.
