OK joncon17,
I'll take a few pics over the weekend and put them in the Mods section, specific to the FT60/26M installation.

Cheers

I had a Yam 60 installed on my 26M. There was no cutting of the pedastal tubes etc... It is a very clean install. You can see photos at:

Regarding Catigale's page one post about 10 knots being top steaming speed during rough conditions, hence no need for more than 50 horses-- this is generally true, but my TLDI 90 gives much better thrust and thus control in these conditions, also motor doesn't have to work so hard. With a price of $7200 and proven reliability/technology, the Tohatsu/Nissan is hard to beat, especially given same or better performance than a 4 stroke--same low noise, same great gas milage, less weight (315 pounds), narrow profile for ease of transom boarding.

It has no affect on sailing performance, and in fact helps the boat point a bit better. Increased stability under power and sailing is fantastic. Only low points are decrease in power at higher elevations due to low pressure injection and maybe limited availability of parts(?) in some areas. I know I've said all this before, but I love this motor and how its transformed my X boat!

i'm a 90-tldi believer as well...
it's changed my use of the X. that is, i can now load it down and still plane at 19-22mph with 3/4 throttle. gas mileage the same as a WOT 50 4-stroke.
my only complaint is when it's in forward gear at low rpm (600-900). it isn't as quite smooth as the Suzi-50 4 stroke.
but once it's at 1500 rpm the noise and smoothness difference is negligible.
with the extra reinforcement that was done on mine & Rolf's & three other installs in SoCal, there are no stress crack/transom failure worries.

Rolf failed to mention that the $7200 was the "installed" price.

Yeah that installation shown by jet01 looks good. My motor installer couldn't find a controller handle like that one, so we went with the standard controller (which was also the cheapest). The standard controller install still came out fairly neat on mine....no complaints (see the mods page). I also needed to invert the L bracket on the motor to make Rogers steering linkage work better. A bigger diameter longer parking pin was also added for steering without motor while sailing. Used a low cost quick release pin for motor steering connect and disconnect - works well.

Controller

Post by jetta01 »

My only complaint with the controller is the position. Full throttle is forward too far, I can`t reach it while seated so I have my hand at the bottom round part of the controller instead of the handle. I want to change it to be further back except then full reverse would hit the key. Ideally they would have mounted the key on the front of the pedestal to allow for changing the controller position as desired.

Just got through selecting the best prop for my new ETEC 90 on my '96 :macx: . Based on this board, I started with a 14x11. This gave me 23 mph at WOT at 6400 RPM (maximum horsepower is between 4500 and 5500 RPM, according to the manual). From 5600 to 6400 RPM, the noise level increased but the top speed didn't. Then I tried a 14x15. This gave me 4900 RPM and 21 mph at WOT. The 14x13 turned out to be the best prop. 26 mph at 6000 RPM at WOT and 22 mph at 5000 rpm. This is with one person aboard. With 4 people aboard, maximum RPM drops to 5800 and top speed drops from 26 to 24 mph.

Interestingly enough, fuel consumption appears to be slightly better than with the 50 HP Mercury 4-stroke I replaced, and top speed doubled!

Hi I am just new here, and having a good old time :)

I am thinking of a (parts, power to weight ratio 18 amp) Merc 60/big foot, any problems with this OB?

Thanks
