Well we made it to San Carlos and Serenity Wins is launching today. Bottom paint done, all rigging checked, 3188 kms travelled, Mexican import permit aquired, boat slip paid, water food and gas onboard. I'll let you now hope it went. Looks like a GREAT day to launch. 8 knot wins and sunny.

I would love for you to write all the details of getting her there: crossing the border, obtaining permits, driving conditions, etc.

Contrats, Serenity. The Sea of Cortez is a marvelous place to cruise. We were down there in spring, 2008 and loved our time down there. What are your cruising plans? Will you be crossing over to Baja, or just spending your time gunkholing on the west side? Please post updates. It will be fun to follow your progress. We'll keep an eye out for future posts.

Ditto on this. I was just educating myself on how to get to San Carlos from AZ this morning. Looks like a great place to go have an adventure.

Have great time learning my boat and the ins and outs of San Carlos Marina. Just doing day sails for now a this is the first I have sailed in 35+ years ....... a lot like riding a bike it is coming back .... loving every minute.
As for the process I used to bring Serenity Wins to Mexico ...... first I cancelled the BC boat licence and registered her with DOT Canada cost $250.00. This I did because the Mexican Marines a few years back did some marina checks for boat ownership and impounded boats until ownership could be proven and fines were given out. Then I acquired the TIP (Temerary Import Permit for Mexico 10 years and extenible for 10 more) online at a Mexican Government website. https://www.banjercito.com.mx/. The costs for the permit was around $60.00 usd and they mail it to you within 10 business days and it arrived in about 6 days. The forms are a little challenging but if I can do it I am sure anyone else could. Also I made sure that the boat trailer was licensed and registered and carry a bill of sell with me. The Mexicans are quiet consired about boat trailer as I guest they can be used to steal boats.
My boat has tandem axils so with greased bearings and good tires I headed south. We traveled through Yuma Az as we have family there. Then acroos to Gila Bend and south through Lukeville / Sonoyta Mexican crossing and down Mex 2 highway. Highway 2 is good and improved now. Get gas right at Border gas station price is better than in Mexico. As far as any border issues ..... if you have all you paper work as I mentioned ( You also need you Mexican Visitors pass $25usd I got mine in Algadones by Yuma and you will need mexican vehicle insurance and towing insurance for the boat and when you put the boat in the marina you will need Mexican liability insurance all very reasonible. I got all of my insurance through Felippi at San Carlos Marina Insurnce, a really nice young man who speak perfect english.) you will have now problems, if they want to inspect the boat they will if not just keep driving. At Santa Anna you will connect with the Mexican 4 lane toll highway. you will go through 2 toll booths so have some pesos.Need less than 500 pesos? There was a lot of construction south of Hermosillo so drive care and follow the signs. DO NOT DRIVE AT NIGHT! Took about 6 hours from border. Hope you all come down. Great place we liked it so muck we bought a place. See Ya
