2001 Macgregor 26X For Sale in Woodbridge, Virginia
As we are probably all aware, winter is generally the very best time of year to buy a boat, a motorcycle or a surfboard--'Tis the season for bargains for all things "summery." So, just for the "Macless among us" (which has a poignant rhymey ring to it, doncha think?), for the yearning newbies and other dreamers or wannabes yet to pull the trigger, I just thought I should point out that from what I can judge from its photos, there's a fairly semi-decent-looking later model 2001 26X for sale nearby right here in Woodbridge, which has been up on our local Craigslist for some time asking for just 6 Boatbucks. Seems there's just a cloggy carb on its Honda 50, but who can say for sure? My hunch is that some good righteous haggling might get that price way down as the glaciers roll down Dale Boulevard, and that a hearty cocktail of fresh ethanol-free gas, SeaFoam and liberal dosings of Marvel Mystery Oil could just evict that offending carb-cloggery. That's all my 2001's Honda needed. Then again, maybe not.
Since I live in the same town, I'd be happy (even though I yet reek of the stench of "relative noob" myself, having only had my own 26X for a single season) to contact the seller and have a little looksee on any interested forum participant's behalf. Just PM me with your contact info. I'm in no position to really "survey" the old girl knowledgeably, but I could probably give you a fair idea as to whether or not it may be worth your while to come all this way for a proper going-over of the gal yourself.
My apologies if this is the wrong or inappropriate spot for this notice, but rest assured I have no financial or other interest whatsoever in the matter.

This looks like it could be an incredible deal! I have passed it on to the Sewell Mountain Sailing association to see if anyone over here in West Virginia may be interested. I wouldn't imagine this one sticking around very long...

Yeah. It's even less than I paid for mine, and I believe other 26X owners might prefer I not talk about how much...or rather little...I forked out for my 2001. Still, the ad's been up for a while.

That looks like a great deal, it would bring upwards of $35,000Au $ in Australia with a running motor

Seems like a good deal to me...looks pretty clean. When I was looking the best I could find was 12-17000 CAD for a used x up North. If this had come up when I was looking I wouldn't have the bought the M....originally I was convinced I wanted the X.

It does look very nice for the price. It looks like its got a chartplotter and stereo too. It also has what looks like a more user friendly motor throttle setup than the OEM Honda remote that came with mine.

Man when I read the thread title, I gasped (knowing you were in Woodbridge) thinking you were parting with yours. Glad to see that's not the case.
Anyway, unless something's changed with the posting, that's not a great deal, is it? $14k?

What are the odds that the seller of that
has been reading these posts, and raised the asking price

Fact is, I haven't heard so much as a peep from anyone asking me to have a looksee on their behalf--even when he was asking just $6K. So, if he hiked the asking price 133% to $14K based solely on these postings, that's just delusional behavior. I'll more likely be crowned King of Siam before that 26X with an "iffy" Honda 50 sells for $14,000.

The Bilgemaster upon learning he is to be crowned King of Siam while in his basement fixing the water heater

Not everyone who may be interested in a Mac knows of this site, or knows of you. Amazing huh
Seriously, reading of all these posts, assuming the seller was reading these posts, it is easy to fool oneself into thinking,or rethinking the price. If it does not sell, the price may just come down.
Whatever the reason, the price went up. Discussing why, is just as effective as debating how many angels can fit on the head of a pin. Once an answer is determined, what difference does it make?
The price went up, it may come down. Let us know
This is just the way I see it.
No further comments from me.

$14,000 now, motor still not running, one would think if your going to put the price up by 150% he could at least of got that "$400 carby rebuild done".
If the motor isnt running 100% then in my book its a boat without a motor as you dont know what the real issue is with the motor, he says a carby clean, could just as easily be the fuel pump or the electronics or any big ticket item.
The question is, if the boat only needs a carby rebuild for just a few boat bucks, why would you not do it and price the boat accordingly
Im thinking at $14,000 BUYER BEWARE!!!!!

Re: 2001 Macgregor 26X For Sale in Woodbridge, Virginia
Just out of curiosity, I responded to the ad, asking why they bumped the price up. Here's the brief response:
"Our Secretary/ CL poster, posted that specific boat at the wrong price. Boats worth way more than $6000."
Given that the actual ad text below uses the pronouns "I" and "me," and contains the same sort of slapdash grammar and spelling as the reply--hardly the handiwork of even the sloppiest "secretary" one could imagine--I'd now have to concur with sailboatmike: If you're looking for a 26X, you might do best to keep looking elsewhere. This one has a funny smell.
"2001 26ft MacGregor sail boat in good condition, boat has a Honda 50 four stroke. All sails at intact, rigging is intact. Freshly painted bottom clean cushions in cabin and a working head system. This boat does need a little TLC and need carberaters rebuild( which I know a guy that will take care of that for you for a little under $400)....please feel free to contact me...boat has clean title and is ready for a new home!"
