Looks better now - update

Just an update on out boat.

After looking at the crappy condition (swirl marks) of the blue gelcoat (condition it was delivered in) on our M, I finally got it looking decent.

Last year I used a straight wax on the boat with a DA polisher. Did nothing for the swirl marks.

This year I tried a few other, more agressive products. I ended up using the 3M gelcoat restorer (gritty compound) that I used on our 12 year old faded powerboat to bring out the shine. Used it on the Mac, using the DA polisher. Stunning results. I really hated to use something as agressive, but it was the only thing that worked. It got 99% of them out, and significanly reduced the few remaining marks.

Anyhoo..here is a pic after the wax job (note the reflection). The blue really kicks @ss. Now it is covered in green pollen, hope some of the rain washes it away.

Your boat looks great. Where did you buy the product? I have the same boat, the black is already looking bad.

(Not as fast as a white hull, of course, but pretty great for a blue one!) :wink:

I viewed some blue M's at Bill's Boats 4 Sail. I really thought that blue was beautiful. Your decked-out blue M is a wonderful boat. I'm glad you got those swirls out. I remember how disapointed you were when they were there on your brand new boat.

She's lookin good Paul. Really good! What a beauty.

I'm sure you were careful to stay clear of them, but those powerlines are giving me the willies.

Paul, it's unfortunate that your dealer didn't make the same effort, but that's water under the dam now. It's looking great!

Yup :)

Of course when I installed the genoa it started flapping and was hitting them in the wind. Of course I picked the windiest day of the year to do it...But the wires are brand new and well insulated...no harm. Actually only hit the cable (lower) wire anyway...

mast is down now :)

Paul, I am looking at the West Marine catalog and there is a 3M product #m restorer and wax page 474. Is this the product you used?
