Hello all,
I sail out of a marina that is doing a great job of building a sailing community. They have a few events each year and are working hard to build the community.
Last year, I brought up the idea of having a marina vs marina event where one marina is the "pirates" and the other marina is the "Navy". There seems to be a lot of interest in holding an event like this, but we are currently struggling how to "score" the event in a way that biologically responsible. We haven't figured out a way to register "hits" that don't pollute our lake.
Has anyone ever participated in an event like this? If so, how were things scored?

Does it have to be so physical
Could it be an inter-marina competition, like a race, or which marina can best dress up one of their members boats to look like a pirate ship
Hurling things at one another just is not right; maybe insults

Laser tag guns and receivers?
hard-mount a gun or two on each side along with a receiver. A hit would require a well-timed broadside. Limit time between permitted firing?
Sounds like fun.

I'm thinking the laser sounds good, maybe to be historically equivalent to the Marine sharp shooters shooting from the Crow's Nest. But it not being visible and being too instant and too easy to correct... doesn't bring a yell or moan from the crews for hits, misses or near misses. I'm thinking surgical tubing sling shots with water balloon cannon balls. Could even do many small balloons for Grape Shot.

Aren't there some really powerful water guns for pool water fights?

Re: Pirates vs Navy sailing event
No need to launch projectiles at each other. I would be quite angry with somebody bouncing a water balloon off of the side of my hull. I can see that leading to fist fights.
If we can come up with a way to host this event, I will post the solution.
