Re: West Marine BOGO on Lexmar Winches
I understand the Boat tax and all that. But I've always been astonished at the cost of marine winches.
This is a great sale if someone needs a pair of winches. I think the only time I've ever used one on our mac was to pull the halyard the last few inches.

Also handy for pulling the mast raising rig down that last little bit to get the forestay attached.

That sale is insane. The #6 single-speed winch is $160 for two!
I just serviced mine a few weeks ago. I wonder if the reason they are so expensive is because they pretty much last forever. They're fairly simple, mechanically and, as long as you don't drop a pawl or spring in the drink, the only maintenance cost is a bit of grease, a few drops of oil and some sweat.

Re: West Marine BOGO on Lexmar Winches
Really want self tailing winches. Unfortunately the smallest is the Lewmar #12 which will not quite fit on the M as they are 4.75" base diameter whereas the #6 are 3 11/16" base diameter. If had the ambition to rework the fiberglass pad under the existing #6 Lewmars they would fit. The price was definitely tempting.
