New guy from Texas (with a million questions)

Post by GonePostal »

Hello all. Ive been lurking here a while but made a profile as I recently acquired a 22ft Macgregor Venture sailboat...

Im only half kidding about the million questions haha Im learning, but I know very little about sailing.

I wouldnt consider my boat a 'project' but its not ready to sail at the moment, hence the million questions.

Anyhoo... Just thought Id say Hi!

Well, if you've got a million questions you'd best have a million slices of pizza. New guy buys, that's the rules. I take anchovies.

(Welcome, Chris! I'm one of the admins here... or as others like to say, the forum police. Just swinging through on my beat.....)

Good morning Chris and welcome to the forum.

If you've been lurking for a while you know that this is just about the friendliest and most on-topic forum out there. Whatever you need help with someone here has probably "been there - done that" already and is ready and willing to share. Give us your best shot.

Hi Chris. Welcome to the forum. I also have a Mac 22 that's torn down for a major refit. Please feel free to ask any and all questions here or by PM. Wherever you go, chances are I've been there before.

This is the link to the V22 manual (generic for several models).

https://macgregorsailors.com/resources/ ... Manual.pdf

Watch all of your standing rigging as you raise the mast. Make sure not to kink anything. Be careful, and have a buddy around if possible to help watch and be another set of hands if required.

I found a keel winch at Northern Tool for little money. Just wanted to mention it in case your winch doesn't feel like being fixed. Had to re-use the handle off the old one for clearance.

Welcome Chris. Where in the Lone Star State are you? I think that it is the second largest state (after Alaska) by area, so just because I am in the same state it does not mean that it would be easy for me to collect on that pizza...

Hi welcome to the group!!
If you get a winch make sure it is a brake winch. That will stop you from breaking fingers if the handle gets away from ya.
blue water yachts can help with the proper type winch.
