Installing Stern Rail Seats for 26M
Installing Stern Rail Seats for 26M
Anyone done an installation of stern rail seats on their 26M?
Got plans from BWY when we purchased the seats, but very difficult to read.
Looking for any and all ideas, tips, etc.
Many, many thanks!!!!!!!

I installed a set of BWY seats a couple of years ago. I found it to be fairly easy. Bolt on to the lifeline stanchions first and make sure seats are level with boat before you attach the small rod support and main support. The only critical area is where you drill the large hole for access to the aft mount bolts. You may have to pick out some flotation foam to get to the back. Get a hemostat to help to get the washers and nuts on the bolts. Seal all contacts with the boat. when you cut the lifelines you will need to swag the attachment points. Harbor freight has a swaging tool (looks like bolt cutters) that works well.

I'm on the hunt for anyone who might have filmed their install. Any leads?

Re: Installing Stern Rail Seats for 26M
Once you have the seat in hands the rest is somewhat obvious as you will align the seat rail to the rear stanchion. From that point it is a matter of leveling the seat and marking the location of the lower inside mounting plate of the seat. Note: you may have to bend the stanchion in order to level the seat. I spoke to Todd @ BWY. The stanchion deck mount fiberglass is very strong in those areas and therefore will not stress the deck when you adjust. I tried to determine if the seats were trued when jig welded. I decided it was more trouble that what it was worth to build a jig to check the alignment of the seat tubing. In the end I just bent the stanchion back to vertical approximately 1in.

Kinda envious of you Mac26M owners having the option of installing those nice stern rail seats!
There just doesn’t seem to be a nice way to do something similar on our Mac26X
It’s just a really neat feature
Best Regards

I was just thinking the same. If bwyachts made them I might splurge. I don't think ID pay 1500 for a pair though.

Worth every penny, and I bought this year after the price increase (like everything increased this year, not just our boat parts). Still worth itpitchpolehobie wrote: ↑Tue Sep 20, 2022 8:00 am I was just thinking the same. If bwyachts made them I might splurge. I don't think ID pay 1500 for a pair though.
Best seat in the house, I now yield the helm willingly to perch up there

I never knew BWY didn't make them for the X model. Seems like there ought to be a way to mount them on an X.
Yes, worth every penny and I can't imagine the boat without them. They also make me feel more secure in the cockpit as it creates a "fence" and encloses the cockpit with rails at the lifeline height.

The next step is placing your stern rail project in the Mods section. You made it very clear for anyone viewing.
