Buying a boat is only half the story

Post by ris »

Just finished painting the trailer. Here is a mostly complete list of improvements to :macx:
1. Put 2 axles under trailer along with new fenders and bunks.
2. Sanded trailer, put ospho on new metal and rusted areas, primed entire trailer and then painted 2 coats of urethane industrial enamel.
3. Boat bottom. Removed paint down to gelcoat, put 2 or 3 coats bottom paint, then 2 coats of antifouling paint
4. Bought FX 11 anchor and 15 lb manson supreme anchor,40 feet of chain, 200 ft 5/16 nylon rope, 150 ft of 3/8 nylon rope and shackles.
5. 9 foot dingy
6. garmin 54dv chartplotter/sonar
7.In process of buying 60 hp honda, 6 hp tohatsu, 1000 watt generator
8. 4- 6 volt trojan batteries
9. Made all new cushions for boat
10. Complete sunbrella dodger/bimini enclosure
11. Rebuilding galley
12. Rewiring and installing new fans and lights and battery charger
13. Bow roller for anchors
14. New steering system

Certainly forgot a few things but hopefully we are almost finished. Upgrades and new stuff now more than original price of boat.
We are really looking forward to doing the Great Loop next year. We are of course reading Chinooks blog with great interest.

“A boat is a hole in the water into which you pour money” :P

“A yacht, they say, is a hole in the water surrounded by wood into which money is poured” has been cited in print since at least 1961 and is of unknown authorship.

Other sayings about boat ownership include “The two happiest days of a man’s life—the day he bought the boat and the day he sold the boat” and “BOAT: Break Out Another Thousand (dollars).”

suggestion , replace all non metal thru hull pieces. replace old hose clamps and bad looking hoses, better now than when they go bad..

Sounds awesome :) If you get bored after all that, my boat could do with a Ris makeover too please :D

Actually, the old BOAT acronym kills that idea unfortunately :(
