Cabin Flooring?

Post by warren631 »

Has anyone had experience with Self-Adhesive EVA Foam Boat Flooring? Is the surface tough? How does it wear? Is it easily damaged and needs replacement?

I put the generic version in my boat cabin. Ive found it was difficult to clean spills from as it seemed to stain. I ended up leaving it down and covering it with the old carpet I had. Now a little warmer and softer.

I have used the dense foam self-adhesive product on other places and in other boats, and my experience is similar to pitchpolephobie's. I would recommend something that can be easily removed for cleaning or replacement.

I used a product similar to this, though I can't recall who I ordered it from:

I was looking at using this stuff. Is that what you are talking about?

Don't know how it holds up. Reviews aren't bad.

Warren631,

Is there a reason you are interested in such a floor?

In my :macm: , I just placed another carpet over the old one.

Doing so made a softer feel. Purchasing a remnant made this an inexpensive project.

Sorry,

I can only go by my experience. Starting season 19, and have never had such a problem.

Yes that's it. Popular and looks nice at first but after a few seasons?

I have had very good luck with Sea Dek covering in my 1959 O'Day Sprite dinghy. I used in the bottom to help with a softer surface for my knees when coming about and in the bow for decoration/appearance. It has held up well now for over 10 years. You can see the class symbol, a winged "S", in the bow section. I am considering having some made for my foredeck on my 26X where my Gelcoat has worn a little thin.

Carpet also has the advantage of removing sand off your feet so it does not end up in bed.

No issues with carpet. Use the non-skid under it.

Replace when needed. We remove all cushions and carpet between sailing trips.

We also use carpet on the cabin floor. One piece from ladder/toilet /galley area. One on the step up from galley area to the v-berth. We also put carpet under the table. Makes it easy on bare feet and much warmer in cold weather than just the floor. We also never wear shoes below and we have no children aboard.

If that,s so then u have a moisture control problem that u need to resolve first , either thru air movement or other means like moisture absortion pads or other means of removing it it,s worse or less depending on the humidity & moisture in ur area , leaks r also an issue , it should b resolved otherwise u r gonna have an issue with mold & mildrew build up between the liners

I agree with this approach, or some other approach that is:

1. Easily removable
2, Easily cleaned
3. Easily replaceable

I would not recommend going with anything self-adhesive, glued, or taped. There will come a day when it is stained, damaged, or you simply get tired of it and the chore of removing residual adhesive from the non-slip texture of the cabin floor in the confines of the boat cabin is one I would want to avoid.
The key to inner peace is to admit you have a problem and leave it at that.

And it doesn’t have to be plain. You can make it exciting, Grrrrr :D

As Highlander pointed out, the real problem is not what to put down, but rather, what is the source of the moisture and how to rectify.
