I went with carpet on the floor of my Mac and I’ve been pretty happy with it. It’s easily removed and cleaned. That being said, I have a 4 x 8 sheet of obscenely expensive teak & holly plywood waiting for me to make floorboards. I’ll probably still use carpet on top of them, but I’ll remove them from time to time to enjoy the warm look of the wood.

I bought a box of wood flooring from box store. Looks nice but collects surface dirt. Eventually I pulled it all out and went bare floor. Then I found original carpet and that’s what I ended up with.

I’m envious of that animal print on Nice Aft

I'll add my vote for carpet. Cheap, easy to replace, and feels nice on the feet. I have a doormat at the base of the ladder. Cuts down on wear from the bottom of the ladder and keeps a little bit of sand out of the carpet.

A small, 12v vacuum does wonders for extending the carpet's life. I don't know how I manage to get dirt in the carpet and even in the cockpit when I have not been off the boat for days but it happens. :?

I'm going to weigh in against carpet. Twice now adult passengers, even when given clear instructions on how to operate the sanipotti, have failed to pull the slide valve, resulting in urine spilling onto the cabin floor. I realized this was the case when I went to make the boat ready for an evening sail yesterday. I was able to get the whole mess completely cleaned up in a few minutes because I use a vinyl mat material that is easily removable and washable. Had it been foam or carpet, I don't think I would have ever gotten the smell out entirely.

One of the advantages of this material is that it stays neat-looking between cleanings since the open mesh design allows dirt to fall through to the cabin floor where it is not as visible. It cuts easily, installs and removes easily, stays in place, hoses clean, and dries in minutes. One caveat - it's a little uncomfortable to kneel on, but a towel, jacket, or somesuch takes care of that problem easily.

To save the reader the trouble of going back to my previous post, I will re-post a link to examples of this material:

The key to inner peace is to admit you have a problem and leave it at that.

100% in agreement on no carpet in the head. Just like at home, the area around a toilet should not be carpeted (in my opinion).

I am surprised that anyone would even consider carpeting around the head on their Mac. That’s equivalent to waxing all walkable areas on deck :D

My wife and I raised six sons. Carpet in the bathroom was never an option.

You might also try TSC (Tractor Supply) they're sold as stable mats or anti fatigue mats. No fancy colors though

“main salon”, I like that. NiceAft no longer has a cabin; we have a main salon. One question; a main salon implies a secondary salon, where is it :?: :D

If using carpet, where do you get the edges bound? Do you do it yourself (sewing/edge glue system?)
