MacGregor 26 and torqeedo deep blue
hi new to the forum and I was wondering if it's possible to fit the torqeedo deep blue battery bank in the interior it's measured at 1666 x 993 x 173 mm or 1800 x 853 x 236 mm for the larger one. tried searching for interior dimensions for each area without much luck.

That’s 65.6” x 39.1” x 6.8” for the smaller one.
I can’t think of anywhere in the bilge area that would remotely be able to accommodate something that size. You could potentially locate it centrally in the aft berth and make a cover for it, but I imagine it’s also quite heavy, so I do wonder what it would to the boat’s overall trim and balance.
Also, the thought of one of those batteries catching fire aboard a boat is a very scary thought. A neighbor down the street had his home consumed by his little Tesla going off in his garage. The fire company could do nothing to stop it - they had to wait until it burned out.

It’s an interesting thought experiment, with likely removing the ballast altogether and replacing it with a pack, but looks like it’s 25k plus batteries, and with a pretty limited range compared to fuel.
I love my Tesla, and its range and charging is ideal for my needs, but can’t imagine the cost/range/fabrication impact to anything short of a luxury build with this technology as it stands.

Re: MacGregor 26 and torqeedo deep blue
thank you all, it is sort of pre-purchase research(finally deciding macgregors 26x is what fits my needs... I had the same conclusion eyeballing the sizes, either putting it underneath the main berth(probably won't want to sleep on it but I've seen other electric catamarans basically putting it inside every storage available including the main berth, or inside the ballast area (not sure how big that is..to basically replace the water weight of 1200lb (about the same weight).. it is basically an electric car battery and you are right any punctures it'd be a disaster... I've been out in the water on and off for two seasons and the thought of a few hours of sailing is a bit too demanding for me, but I do enjoy the silent operation when not motoring, hence looking into possible electric solutions, I've seen someone on the forum putting 12 car batteries under the storage area, but that's probably not enough for an 80hp motor for the trips I want to make .. at least 50nm at a time. maybe it'll take a bit more time to wait for battery technology to improve a bit more.

Just to satisfy my own morbid curiosity, who was going to put 12 car batteries in a Macgregor? That would weigh close to twice as much as a 50HP outboard.

16 of those style batteries will only weigh about 50% more than my outboard. That's not quite as crazy as I first thought. It's still going to take a pretty healthy charger to bring those back to life after a day on the water.

Looking at those metal fixing bars right next to the battery terminals makes the words 'short circuit' and 'fire' come to mind

Re: MacGregor 26 and torqeedo deep blue
ya it does, ultimately i decided that electric solution is probably not great for this boat instead going for the quietest gas outboard i can find probably a 70hp yamaha or 90 not sure which is quieter will check with a few dealers.
