Centerboard not pulling up completely ... Reason Found!

Post by Login3 »

So for the entire time I've had this boat I noticed the centerboard was not fully retractible. I found a similar thread from someone who ended up fixing it by replacing the hanger and pin. So to "shotgun approach" this particular task, and since I knew I needed to replace the line, I figured I'd order a new hanger from Todd.

Today I set some cardboard on the cross member of the trailer, and a ladder and foam for the fore section, let slip the line and had a pretty straightforward time removing the nut to the top threads and tapping firmly with a 5lb sledge. Easy, as far as these things can go.

I crawled under, tested the weight of the centerboard, and held it up whilst removing the ladder. The last threads resisted a bit in the 5200 up there, but it came down with a klank.

OH MY! I sez to myself. I think I see why the 'board was not retracting fully.

SOMEONE didn't follow directions.

Well, upon inspection I would have replaced the hanger anyway. The weld of the anti-rotation pin was rusted and broken on one side. That could have caused a problem.

Now I go clean it all up, install with new line and STOPPER KNOT! and then (ahem) remove the screws that I stupidly drove through the tube to hold my table legs. What was I thinking? (I do stupid things too!). Glad I got away with it, and I have a plan to support/fasten my table support branches.

I wager my centerboard will retract fully now!
