In addition to proof of insurance, my club wants proof of ownership (Dockmaster confided he only needs it for the VIN).
My wife dug up the folder of stuff from 11 years ago. Lots of documents, don't know which is which.
I've got a Pleasure craft license document, whoch has both the PO's info and my info on it uder "New Owner".
One of them is a certificate - it looks like a diploma with the frilly borders that you hang on the office wall. It is called Certificate of Title.
Thing is, it doesn't have my name on it anywhere; it has the name of the original owner, and it has the word "Lien" all over it.
The boat did have a small lien from PO, which I did pay (and have that documentation too).
Still, not sure I want to put that document in front of my new overlards.
What document should I send?
What document(s) show proof of ownership?

Nothing like pressing 'SEND' to have the answer present itself.
A quick Google 'what document shows proof of ownershp of a boat' lists "Bill of Sale' as one.
That I have, and it does have the VIN.
Thanks everyone. You've been a great help!

Re: What document(s) show proof of ownership?
In Canada, the absolute best way to prove ownership is to register the boat with Transport Canada. A bill of sale can work, but they are fakeable and challengeable. If you register the boat federally, they assign an Official Number that must be placed on the outside of the hull and on the inside as well.DaveC426913 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2024 6:39 pm In addition to proof of insurance, my club wants proof of ownership (Dockmaster confided he only needs it for the VIN).

A boat license, or Pleasure Craft license, does not prove ownership.
Our experience with US Customs and Border Patrol is that a simple bill of sale is questionable, and when we first crossed the border it was a good thing that we had the original bill of sale from the dealer to the original owner, as well as the bill of sale from the original owner to us. Since we registered federally, there's zero issues at land or water crossings.
