It was when they were still selling the Tattoo 26. The molds that I saw were for the Tattoo 22.
I'm not a lawyer, and this is purely speculation but I think that Roger may have claimed the 26M molds were worthless for tax purposes. By case law, the Tattoo 26 is a different boat, as they moved the stern ladder from one side of the OBM to the other side.
As for Laura and her husband being factually challenged, during lunch, my recollection is I was told that they ran the largest MacGregor store in Europe in London, while they sailed their yacht (not a MacGregor 65) in the Mediterranean, while they worked at the MacGregor factory in California, while they lived in the south of France. An engineer buddy of mine was with me. He said "I asked them 2 questions and knew that they didn't know what they were talking about".

The only molds that I recall were no longer any good were the ones for the MacGregor 65. I had a customer call me and said if I could get him a Mac 65 he would also buy a 26 for his son. I called the Mac factory and tried to get a 65 for him but was told that they were ending production of the 65 because of the molds.

I was going through some old paperwork last week and saw the numbers that were in my deposit account that was never returned. Approximately $3,000.

I recall Laura MacGregor Sharp said the molds for the 26M were shot.

Roger was building a 65 (or 70) with a bunch of interesting components (carbon fiber, water ballast that is movable). Mike Inmon made a video. Never saw the boat completed.

Hi Bill at Boats 4 Sail!

Wow! That deposit has been out there for a while now….
Kind of a shame the Tatoos didn’t really get developed and into production.
Would have been………. :|

Best Regards,
