I think to understand "Mac Hate", one has to question why anyone would want to disparage anything as trivial as one's choice of sailboat. My armchair psychology view is this: Sailors like to think of themselves as rugged individualists and purists. Why else would they choose to spend so much time and money on an outmoded means of transportation? As such, have a notion that there is only one way to sail and one boat to sail - theirs. Apparently there are plenty out there with egos so fragile that they feel they must put others down for their choice of boat. It's the same kind of tribalism that fuels sports rivalries among fans of cars, sports teams, politicians, etc. We are the best, and everyone else is a schlub. Kind of silly and pointless, I think.
I can get my chops broken for many reasons. I got a lot of shtuufff on my boat. I got tough skin and I’m doing much better these years. Nevertheless, I’d have no problem shutting that stuff down. You wanna confront my decision as a Capt. Ok, take your best shot. I either learn something new or prove you should keep your opinion to your unasked self
Bashing your Mac is the equivalent of someone calling your mate ugly… The results would also be the same - I’m from BROOKLYN!
I find that there is a lot less Mac bashing at low tide, or when the harbor has silted in between dredgings. Also, once folks have actually sailed on one, opinions often change. I have caught more than one of my keel buddies smiling as we planed back to the club when the wind died…. They are often more critical of my roller furling main than my boat (and rightfully so).
We recently anchored just off the end of one keel boat buddy’s wharf. He said, “I can’t believe you can bring that thing right in to the shallows like this. If I could get my boat in here, my wife would go sailing a lot more often.” I told him that we could actually slide right up to the beach if we wanted.
As my favorite philosopher, Dr Seuss, once said; “Try them, try them, and you may….”

Macs are great all around boats. Ive had a blast sailing mine, cruising mine, taking friends and family out for once in a lifetime trips and relaxing after work. Most of us are singlehanders-underhanders & have a blast w the Mac platform. No boat does everything but ours do a lot and very well at that.
Frankly if those type of people are in disagreement...it means were doin something right.

Also we need a Mac 25 emoji!!
And the S, and the D!
The key to inner peace is to admit you have a problem and leave it at that.
I've never seen hate, I just sold my awesome 26X on to another owner last weekend. I owned it for six years and most of it in the same marina its in now along with my new boat. A couple of sailboat people over the years said hello, mostly power boat people introduced themselves though and were always friendly. After buying a "real" sailboat, over the last month eight other sailboat owners have introduced themselves and asked about my new boat. It's silly that someone would overlook a sailboat because of the engine. Mac's are great boats and I really enjoyed the two I've owned over the years.

Ironically, the only real negatives I've ever gotten is from the power boating community folks in MD. Weirdly, the power boat and sailboat communities in the Chesapeake often have antipathy toward each other. Especially the power boaters who fancy themselves watermen, or wannabe watermen. (I.e. recreational boating fishermen). Because it's principally looks like a sailboat, they lump me into what they fell is the bourgie sailboat community. The powerboat chops of the 26M/X don't allow me to be part of their 'clique' This also weirdly tends to imply association certain political affiliations as well.
Whereas the sailboat community at worst considers me some kind of neophyte that hasn't made the emotional transition to a true sailboat and just needs more encouragement to buy a real sailboat.
I don't give it much concern. Having been on a lot of sailboats and powerboats, I personally feel if you have mastered proficiency of sailing and powering on your X/M you are probably better at sailing than many sailboat people, and a better overall powerboat skipper than most of the powerboat people.

Sailors and powerboaters usually don't get on well, and the Mac is right in the middle, so both sides see it as a "member of the enemy". But Mac owners laugh at both.
