Can we install one of those in a MacGregor 26x?

Besides the bigger shell I don't see what could be a problem.

What's the overall diameter? You'd have to rotate it so those controls are verticle so you can still move around in the cockpit.

I have one on my 26X. It works fine for holding heading. It came with the boat and I had to put a larger wheel on to use it comfortably. The stock wheel on the Mac is only slightly larger than the outer ring of the Wheelpilot and I was skinning my knuckles on it. The control panel does stick out and get in the way if you are trying to move forward on the starboard side. You can’t rotate the wheelpilot mounting to avoid this because the compass is mounted inside the control panel and needs to stay level in its gimbals.
I disassembled mine this winter for an overhaul as it was rusting internally and I added some extra cable so I can mount the control panel in a location where it does not get in the way and I can still keep the internal compass level. My plan is to rotate the control panel 90 degrees and mount it on the side of the pedestal. If I am successful, I will try to post pictures next summer. If it is a big failure, I will silently slink away and mention it no more.
