Boating numbers increasing?

Post by dlandersson »

Was down at my marina this morning at 4 am to beat the 4 July rush. The local police were blocking off the marina entrance. In the entire (sevral hundred) parking lot, there were only 3 open spots. This has never happened before - at least since 2011.
I know boating took a dip for a few years, but has it been increasibg? Virtually no available slips in the marina either. 8)

This seems to be the case at Lake Grapevine (Texas), if casual observation is correct. The shore near our marina seems to be a favored construction site for floating docks, and every few months I see a new one under construction. A recent Thursday afternoon saw power boat traffic that looked more like a weekend than a weekday. Not surprising - a growing population is going to lead to that. I just wish there was more regulation (i.e. a boating license) so that boaters of all kinds would be educated on boating law and etiquette.
The key to inner peace is to admit you have a problem and leave it at that.
