Is my 97X ladder ready?

Post by dlandersson »

Is my 97X ladder ready?

I'm a little slow. :)

While chilling on my 97X and admiring it (and myself for taking care of it) I noticed that I have hardware installed that looks a lot like something - a step ladder? - can be placed there. Instead,I hve the "step" with the water ballast hole underneath it.

Can I install a stepladder? Thoughts? 8)

Interesting. Does it seem to have a preferred angle? Maybe something leading up into the companionway.

A 1997 26X should have the step and no ladder. I suspect someone added those brackets.

Think a ladder would fit? Know where I can get one? 8)

Perhaps so, but it would leave you with the vent plug exposed, since I doubt you can have both the step and the ladder in place concurrently.

The ladder is nice because it may be folded up to gain easier access to the aft berths, but the step, I find, is easier on the feet when climbing in and out, and you’re less likely to stub a toe. Each has advantages…

As for where to get one, the late 26X ladder would have to be sourced from a scrapped boat as they are NLA. However, perhaps one from an M may be made to work. Might want to ask BWY if they know.

To be fair, ever since my kids have grown up and flown the coop, we only use the aft berths for storage too, but we only store one Sterlite bin of sundry sailing bits and the sails back there.

Hi All!

The aft berth on our Mac26X was too confined for the Admiral so we opted to use tge V-Berth and fold down the dinette a while back.
We made new memory foam cushions with vented underpayment panels. Best mod we could have made for sleeping and also for day use!
We have also placed a set of clear sided portable bins of various sizes in the aft berth area that keeps things sealed up, water tight and organized! 8) 8)

These changes and the new galley we made have really improved our personal usage of Over Easy on the various extended trips we’ve made. We placed all these mods in the “Mods” section of the forum.

We like the openness that this layout gives us, the comfort and the organized usability that this provides us. Really minimizes the fussing about looking for things as well as getting set at the start of our boating season as well as end of season cleanup/storage.

Best Regards,
Over Easy 8) 8)

Here the same. Once the kids got past 10 or so it's a bit cramped back there. The right side has the cockpit cushions when they aren't in the cockpit and the left side has 4 plastic tubs connected by a rope so I can rotate them to get sutff as needed. 8)
