Safe to Deal with?
Safe to Deal with?
Good Morning everyone .... I was wondering if any of you had done any "on-line" buisness with "Defender" discount marine?
I sould have asked about "Sailnet"
.Luckily ,{apparently},according to my c.c.company,thier software is still running but nothing happens
That was close,i found a forum on thier site that said they went "Bankrupt" in July
so I called my c.c. and no charges were made
. Anyway, any info about Defender would be a Help!
Defender is my favorite marine store... I've bought lots of stuff with no problems. Customer service is excellent (fast and effective).
I've bought a few things from Boater's World. In the stores, customer service is pretty good, but online it is non-existant. They even claim to be two different companies, such that you can't take online purchases back to the store... I shy away from Boater's World online. Although, I do like shopping their physical store...
West Marine has a slick online site, but I rarely find they have the better price...
Shipstore is also a great place, if you know exactly what you want. Their system is very cumbersome, so browsing is very difficult. Although, they seem to have almost anything and often have the best price. So, what I usually do is browse places like Defender and West Marine until I find exactly what I want, then check their price against Shipstore, doing a very specific search.
I've also bought stuff from Cabela's and Bass Pro. They usually have good prices on stuff that could be used on your basic fishing boats, such as battery chargers...
A final place is Overton's. They are pretty hit or miss. But, often they have just the thing I wanted at the best price... I got coast guard rated PFDs for the kids for only $8 (plus shipping)...

I have had very good service from Defender, and their regular prices are generally better than West Marine's sale prices.
If I can and the prices are not too far out of line, I like to buy from my local West Marine store because they're nice people, their customer service is great and I'm contributing in a small way to the local economy. However, my local store is quite small and if I'm going to go online or mail order, I go for the best price, which is nearly always Defender.

I'd add Surplus Unlimited to your list. Their selection is somewhat limited -- but what they offer is discounted and their service is good.Tripp Gal wrote:APS

Ditto on surplus unlimited in Daytona. I've spent hours in the store just looking. Great prices.
