dingy carrier

Post by aya16 »

any one have any ideas this would be to carry the dingy to the ramp
on the mac trailer. It does not have to go on the street. cant read the writing, ok 2" galv pipe welded to trailer with 1 1/2 inch pipe that slides into the 2 " that way it can be pushed in when not needed. It would have to be 5.5 feet from the tires when open. So a ten foot lenght should do it.
any ideas? This is so the dingy can be launched and retrieved at the same time the mac is, also gives a way to flush the dingy motor and the mac motor at the same time. I know I have too much time on my hands

Seemks to me like a complicated and truly unwieldy way to move your dinghy around. Where are you moving it from? Cripes, your trailer will be close to 14' wide with this monstrosity on it. You got that kind of clearance at the launch ramp and washdown rack? I've seen quite a few of both, and I've never seen one this wide.

Seems to me like a separate "dinghy dolly" makes more sense. You can buy a set of wheels from West Marine for $99.

Chip Thats just it I do have the room and it would be very nice to launch
all together, but youre right its a little over kill. but setting the dingy up and putting the mac and dingy in the water takes some time. Right now I put the inflated dingy on top of the bed of my truck take it to the ramp (200 feet away) then carry it into the water, then I install the motor and gas tank. go get the mac and launch. takes a little time. When Im by myself I cant put the dingy on top of the bed. The set up I showed on the other post would allow me to install everything before I go to the ramp
then launch the whole thing at once. There is more than enough room here to do that, even twenty feet would not be a problem. I also could do as you said and get the weels and walk back to the storage and roll the dingy all together down to the ramp.

I was in touch with your friend and he said he would get back to me.

I got the idea better now that you've described it, and you're right it would be simpler than a separate dinghy dolly as long as you've got the room.

Seems as if your idea should work OK as you've designed it.

You might consider aluminum intead of galvy pipe for a serious weight savings, and as nearly as I can figure about the same cost. Square tube would be even better, though slightly more expensive. You can get that in galvy or aluminum as well. Whichever, (galvy pipe or al, round or square) use U-clamps instead of welding to attach them to the frame rails, like how the axle is attached to the springs.

good idea, say 1 1/2 alum. work ? its got to hold about 300lbs 80 for the dingy 65 for the motor 20 for the gas and the rest of the junk I throw in.
I know 2 2x6's turned sideways will work with carpet but I cant think of a way to make them retractable.
