New Zealand Designers Asks For Your Assistance.
I just wanted to personally thank all of you that voted and/or contributed their thoughts to this thread. Thanks also to Heath for allowing the poll.
Just to give you an update on where things are.........
The design of the 280 has been finalized and the tooling for the boat is currently out for bid. Those numbers should be in withing the next two weeks and will allow the principals to determine if the basic boat can be built and shipped to Colorado and offered at a retail price of between $35 to $40 sailaway.
The same designers were commissioned two weeks ago to begin a second design. This boat will be a trailerable 38'.6" trailerable sailboat with an 8.5" beam, 2'.1" draft and will be built at the Colorado facility if the 280 is viable. Sailaway pricing for this boat will be under $100,000.00
If you are interested in these projects, PM me and leave your e-mail. We will be sending an electronic newsletter out periodically to keep you abreast of the project.
Once again, thanks for interest and participation.

Catigale...your post is so true...we enjoy visiting Marinas, looking at boats especially those for sale. Its amazing what $20,000. to $40,000. will buy in a solid used keel boat in need of a little T.L.C. But we continue to like the Mac X and its simplicity and ease of handling at this point. I've actually seen nice keel boats for $10,000. that would be in great shape with an additional $5,000. "fixed up stuff"...I think its a buyers market for a "handy man"...

Westernwaves:
I do not want to break any of the rules of this board regarding the selling of a boat or even giving the mere impression that one is for sale.
If you PM me with your e-mail, I would be happy to answer your questions.
FYI. There are two versions being considered. One with shared ballast between water and centerboard/keel. The other would be strictly centerboardkeel.
The design process just been started. Once complete, then off to the composite engineers and then production costs will have to be determined.
But yes, we will offer a stripped base boat as you mentioned for those who want to finish it themselves. You would be Hull #2. Hull #1 has already been reserved and a $500.00 deposit received.

Hi Billy:
Auxiliary power for the 28 will max out at probaby 15 horse outboard and the 39 will probably be around 25 to 30.
As mentioned in previous posts, these boats are aimed at the individual that seeks great sailing performance, spacious accomodations, fifteen minute set-up/launching and trailerability.
Sorry

Droooooooooooooooooooollllllll......................................
lets see....
With my x boat designed external longitudinal stiffeners, and my aircell transom reinforcements.......hmmmmmmmmmm
And its not even christmas yet...........
Still need the empty ballasted hull weight guestimate tho, for calculation of HP requirements, hull wetted area, design speed........., The more water ballast the better,
However I would offer one piece of advice here..........
If there is any water ballast in it, it will be pooh poohed by the full sail contingent, so you might was well design it to be primarily water ballasted, and take the tank volume penalty, because 95% of your customers with money will by a fully water ballasted, shallower drafted vessel.
In my many readings on the SA site, I have noticed a few things tho........
The mouthiest/most vengeful attackers of waterballasted/mac style boats... generally sail on other peoples boats....... must be the outlay cost to keep a real sailboat in the water is so high few can afford it.....
or perhaps having enough money to compete your own boat, indicates a maturity or tolerance to others who have not attained so lofty a status as to be able to not have to work for a living, or fund a full keel raceboat.
So, if you can shave off 6" of keel by using more water ballast, go for it.
