Looking for Brochure for 26X (not owner's manual)

Post by squirrelly »

If anyone has a brochure of the 2001 or 2002 26X that they can scan and email to me, I would greatly appreciate it. Am trying to decide between buying used 26X and new 26M.

You know from time to time a few here have really busted or tried to bust Ole Rogers chops about his boats and his company. . but after going thru all those boats . . . There's not one I can say I wouldn't like to have except maybe the 65 . . Roger has filled a need and made countless thousands happy over the years. IMHO Good Job Mr. MacGregor !

Why Divecoz? What's wrong with the 65? i never see it discussed very often. I know it holds a speed record from LA to ? someplace inSouth America? I know it's a lot of plastic inside instead of wood. It's design leans towards the newer longer, and less beamy yachts like this onehttp://www.briontoss.com/education/arch ... cmar04.htm. Yes I know it's an unfair comparison, but the Mac costs less than 1/2 as much. what have you heard?

I believe Divecoz is questioning the 65/70 because it is not trailerable. They all have the MacGregor Shoal water qualifications except the 65/70. I believe it may just be the modern thinking Frank Mighetto was marking in his post on Modern Yacht Design for Costal Sailing. These amazing boats have so much to offer.

TT was Right on the mark and adding to that I can honestly sail mine alone not sure even a real sailor could the 65/70 . My desire has been from the start to take mine places where harbour Queens will never go . . . Not in a rowanyway . So I guess I like the 65/70 it's just not for me. What about the first Motor Sailorthough, the 19, it was missing . I really like the looks of those little guys . .

I know of two daring young men attempting to sail a 50 sloop themselves, having entered a harbor race years back. They were doing fine until they rounded the mark and were heading back up the harbor in a group, were forced to tack, and drove over a friends 26. They had no insurance and never raced again. It collapsed the cabin on his 26', but he was able to rebuild and race again.

A good friend and I were up-grading a 42 IOR Racer after hitting the huge under water rock rounding LA Lighthouse at low tide in a race, this boat drew better than 8, and we caught about 2 of the keel, trying to keep a Melgas 24 from going inside rounding LA Light at the breakwater.

The Boat next to ours in the boat yard was a Mac 65 and it was receiving extensive repairs after being run aground. The two young sailors repairing the Mac 65 had purchased it on salvage, from the Long Beach Naval Base Marina (Long gone now). Their objective was to live aboard and sail it themselves. They revealed it was a handful when the harbor was crowded, so Divecoz may be right about single-handing the Big Mac.

You're so right Divecoz... The 19 is not included??? I'll pick it up from the net. Thanks

So, another quote that a 65/70' Mac is not trailerable! I said as more of a joke in the thread titled "Largest Trailerable Sailboat" that it IS possible to trailer that also!

I am currently considering purchasing a 65' within the next year, and let me tell you straight out, if I wanted to cruise the Atlantic, all I would have to do is load it up and ship it there, it is all doable.

If the right offering comes along, I will snag it!

I was attempting to look at one last year in San Diego's Harbor, and it was sold before I had that oppertunity. It WAS shipped to Florida, by truck.

So..... my point is...it is all doable, just so ya know!

My 26 M is as big as I could really want /use as it is, I HAVE to replace a vehicle I really like . . But I will be doing that to use the WW&S the way and where I want to .

I keep a photo of two Mac 65s on a beam reach on the wall behind my computer monitor, right below the one of my own boat. I believe it's from the cover of the original Mac 65 brochure.

The ones in my photo are the pilot house version, not the stripper racing version which set all the records. I've never actually seen either in person, but still, other photos I've seen look like they're going 40mph when they're sitting at anchor.

There's actually quite a lot of wood inside compared to other Macs, the accomodations are fairly nice and for a 65 footer, priced at about half or less than other similar sized boats.

Let's be realistic as well. No 65 foot boat is going to be less than a handfull in a crowded harbor, and not many are usually equipped for single handing. The loads on the running rigging of a sloop or cutter rig this size must be truly mind boggling.

If I had one I'd consider towing the 26X behind as a dinghy :D

Tom! How about "The Barking spider lll"? Nice boat. owned by a yachtbroker who blew out the new Main trying to beat "The longest and most enduring of all races to mainland Mexico: 4 days, 23 hours, 0 minutes, 4 seconds, set by Richard and Camille Daniels' MacGregor 65 Joss in 1985 at an average speed of 9.5 for the 1,125 nautical miles"
Looking at the pics, This is one handsome boat.http://www.sailboatlistings.com/view/3779

65 maneuverability

Post by waternwaves »

With thrusters added...... that would be a beautiful boat to handle in the harbor..........

But with 20Kts, and a 65to 80 ft mast.....OMG, that is two sets of sheets that are not coming out of the fairleads.

I lifted a man off deck in a 36 footer...., I just dont want to lift anyone that much higher ......
