I've got to make sure the Admiral doesn't see this one. We've been talking about a galley mod, but there's no way mine is going to look that good! Beautiful!
That electrical box is too close to the galley sink - moisture will cause failure inevitably it should be moved immediately. (Bad cse of Galley-envy)
Seriously, that is one beautiful galley and makes my work with ClosetMaid look child-like.....I m working on a new plan for my lower galley area on my this month - but Im running out of time...
Most of my mods came from studying thr entries made on this site. I don't have a real sophisticated workshop but I have the basics, and a few toys like a Roto-Zip and a biscuit joiner than makes butt joints pretty easy to make. Any way on future mods I'll try to be more explicit about methods used, etc.
The cabinet doors have no hardware. I used velcroe on the top/bottom which works pretty well even in a fairly steep heel. I did it this way so that I can remove any one or all of the doors. This means much greater access to work underneath the sink etc. On the inside of the doors, I glued some wicker placemat material to the wood side of the panel inset. So when I take them out, they can be used as serving trays. On the third I made a little magazine rack (again on the inside) to store charts, menus, etc. Also, if you look closely, you can see that I have some "paddles" mounted. These conceal some LED "step lights" which I bought at West Marine. They light up the countertop without being too bright.
Not too much weight was added. Remember I removed the old black plexiglass, the sink, tile and some countertop. I used 3/8" plywood, and laminate flooring for countertop. I was careful to use wood as thin as possible in building the shelves. Also to offset add'l weight, I placed my waterbag for my water system on the starboard side. I can add enough water to counterbalance the weight. When I get time, I'll submit that mod, too.
