Dimension of the mast.
Dimension of the mast.
Hi
I would like to know the diameter of the mast of the 26M. Certain people say to me that the mast is too small for the size of the boat compared with a of the same boat dimension(ex: catalina 25). What can I answer these people (manufacture, materials)? A person, to laugh a little at the macgregor said to me: There is it of the “brave man” which did one crossed of the atlantic with mac 26?

Alain - there are many people who laugh at the Mac who lack the understanding of the boat concept - a lightly built trailor sailor designed for inland and coastal sailing. THe boat does most things fairly well, a few things poorly, but a unique combination of flexiblity and cost make it the most popular boat in the world.
Throwing around ratios of lengths and weights comparing it to keelboats just isnt relevant, imho.

Alain,
if i want to make conversation and be nice i say "it's a good sailboat and it's a good powerboat, but it isn't great at either, and it meets my needs perfectly" of course, if they are just looking for an argument i point out that isn't it nice we can all choose what we like for ourselves. i mean there are more whiny complainers out there than one has time in life to deal with. besides, how many of these people do you think have crossed an ocean in whatever boat they have? that is if they even have one.
please, enjoy your boat, it has amazing versatility and you will come to love it for that,
just my opinion, francis joshua

Alain,
I can tell you that last summer during a race a Capri 22 (Catalina's upgraded racing 22) just ahead of me, was dismasted during a stiff blow. two other keelboats nearly broached during the same puff. My M held on just fine, and I hadn't time to reef my main before it hit. The Capri belonged to our race director, so it wasn't because he was a novice sailor. It snapped right at the spreaders.

Some ? Many? Buy a Name, Not what they really need or will ever use.
Its important to them what others think about them. They are often so worried about what others may be thinking of them. Yet few of us really care about what these lost souls have or parade around in or on or with. . If in fact you own a Mac Gregor use it and enjoy it for what it is . You will find people all thru your life who will find fault with what YOU HAVE, and they may have nothing at all. Your always going to run into the If I's . If I had . . a boat it would have to be a Pearson or and Erickson . What do you have ? Well I don't have but I wouldn't have a Mac. Same was what I heard when I bought my Motorcycle a few years ago , after having ridden Harley's for years , I bought a Yamaha V star. Looks like one (kind of) Sounds like one (Kind of ) Its great for my needs but I heard from several that IF they ever get a bike it will be . . you insert the badge you want here. While the poo poo'ers are poo'ing you just get out there sailing or riding
The Mac is what it is . A Light weight portable Cruising sailing power boat camper that is easy on the pocket book if you so desire it to be, meant for no doubt inland lake and coastal waters . Even then use caution and care. Just like everyone else should be doing.
