I am ordering a set of the Stern Seats from BYI for my M. I'm wondering if any hurdles were seen on installation by someone who has done it. Looking at some already installed, the job looks pretty straightforward, except that access to fastners on the aft seat mounts might be a little tricky.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Has anyone DIY'ed installation of Stern Seats on a "M&q

Stern seats are an easy install. I got mine about 2 years ago from BWY and the fit was great. It's been some time since I did mine, but as I recall you will need to cut access holes to hold the nuts for the lower brace in place. I believe I used a 4 inch hole saw and when fininsed installed an access plate from WM. Holes were drilled in the verticle surface to the left and right of the motor in the stern accessway. Best to buy the access plates first to make sure you have a good fit when finished.

I just installed mine last weekend and I am very happy with them. It looks difficult but it took me no more then an hour to do.
Just a note ......READ THE DIRECTIONS FIRST completely!!!
I sort of read them and drilled the hole for the mid-seat support 1/16 to big for any stainless screw I can find.....and have a couple extra 1/4 nuts around for when you drop the ones they give you into the hull. you can do it with a 2" hole saw if you are carefull and use the needlenose
****Helpfull Hint use a small set of needlenose vise-grips to hold onto the nuts.... and use sharp drill bits on slow speed, it worked perfect for me.

The stern seats from BWY I installed last year were very well made using high quality materials. There were adjustments needed to mate perfectly with the transom rails, though. No big deal, but they didn't just 'drop' on.
The access hole needs to be bored into the vertical port and starboard walls of the engine bay to get your hand on the 1/4-20 nyloc nut and some styrofoam needs to be removed (then reinstalled). Mine came with a snap cover to seal the large hole. Use 5200 sealant so no seawater ingress occurs.
Look at my mods in the mod section and you can see how mine came out. I also installed two transom rails to fully enclose the cockpit. I have kids.
