Now where did I put that waterline??

Post by Scott »

Im happy to read some posts from others discussing the voluminous quantities of crappola they tote along while sailing. We pared down to about 50% of carry alongs as I found most of what I considered neccessary in earlier years had never been used since I owned my boat. Every year when I prep my boat for launch I find myself opening access covers and saying "Oh yeah, there it is, I forgot I had that" "good thing I had it though". Hearing of all the others with the same kind of brain damage has made me feel a little better about myself. I can hold my chin high again and face the day. Now that Ive pulled some of the crap off of my boat I think Ill run to boaters world and buy some more. (I have the space)

This year they have a new clerk at boaters world here. In my pre season shopping extravaganza, (stocking critical items, new koozies and the like). He told me he was a lifelong bass boater. He thought bass fisher guys were insane in the amount of money they spent on their addiction, "THEN HE MET A SAILOR" We laughed- I think he was laughing harder than me!

Dave if you post the vectored crossreferenced directory of crap and crap locations, I will code it on my steering station laptop and post it as shareware on my website with my cingular wireless modem (For weather downloads). That way Mac owners the world around will be able to locate their crap at a moments notice, for that matter I can make it fully customizable and be the saviour of sailors the world around, wait-wait-wait, c'mon honey quicherbitchen, the laptops still bootin up! (Note to self, Need a faster laptop) Good thing you suggeted the New GPS, now Ill be able to find Best Buy!

stuff and more stuff

Post by greybird-M »

My truck bed looks like a rolling West Marine supply depot AND Mac spare parts/mast rigging equipment storage area. I also have thought that I will need to makeup a visual data base for where stuff is stored on the boat and/or in the truck so I know where everything is rather than relying on my 50+ memory.
It goes on and on . . .

:D :D :D :D I can identify!

Traded in my 2000 Durango on a 2003 GMC half-ton, since the Durango's "aft compartment" was permanently cluttered-looking, chock full of boating gear (but not as cluttered as the aft berth). Had to add a Snugtop shell to hide the mess in the pickup bed. Fortunately, windows are dark all-around.

I really like the idea of a full SQL web-app to keep a standardized 26X stowage database. It can include Walt's clickable graphic of the cabin plan, with color coded stowage compartments. I'll sell-off my surplus spares (since I can't ever find anything), and then buy a new laptop linked to the web-app with a GSM cellular card. This $2,000 investment will permit me to dispense with $60 worth of vinyl notebooks, and related operating supplies. Since I don't need the bank deposit box, I can divert those funds to pay for the cellular link. Finally, a real solution!

I agree, a $2000 laptop sounds much more prudent than the $60 investment in flimsy notebooks. I was talking about a free standing download but after your comment about a web based app, I agree with that. It makes more sense to store such critical location information off site. That way if you sink your boat because you have too much crap on it, you can go to the web cafe' at the marina and you would still be able to direct the salvage divers to where you put your shades. ------On a more serious note, just got back from the lake. Had to pull out 3 young powerboaters that skipped their boat over the tip of a point and I assume tore their motor and transom off. The boat came to rest 200' or so into the middle of the lake with the bow pointed at the clouds. This is as near as I can figure as I didnt see it happen but there was a thick strip of mud under the rubrail across the bow. We were cookin on a broad reach at about 7 knots I turned around and there they were. I feel sorry for them.

David and Frank, Im really sorry but I think Im going to go it alone. I beleive that the best business model is Debt free Non asset based nepotist aligned LLC,s managed by a dispersment holding company, (so I dont lose my sailboat in the inevitable lawsuits.

Im looking to my youngest daughter for venture capitol, her paper route money is laying on the dining table screaming to me, invest me invest me. Plus if I lose her money it'll just be a character building experience. "Im such a good Dad"

Later today after church, Im gonna reverse engineer Excel, then, if you hurry up and post your code Ill overlay it and VIOLA' Im a genius.

Dont be mad at me cause Im gonna have everyone over to the dock for beers to check out my Mac 65 next sunday. After all Im gonna be rich by friday. Just remember to bring a lawn chair cause theres no benches on the dock. (where youll be sitting)

So enjoy your Mac 65 during your brief Friday–Saturday window of wealth. Frank & I are already printing–up tickets for dockside seats to Sunday's show. NOTE TO FRANK: I realize this is news to you. But, unlike, Scott, I won't cut you out of your fair share. Honor among thieves & all that, you know.

Of course,Scott, that "show" will be Federal Marshalls impounding your Mac 65, chasing you around the marina & serving a writ upon your poor daughter to impound the cash flow from her paper route before they drag you through your "purp walk" right in front of our reviewing stand on the dock. . . .
She's obviously not a "Qualified Investor!" Have either of you guys heard of Enron and Sarbane-Oxley?

I never signed that employment agreement or Options letter, and my SSN was a fake. Don't think you can enmesh me in this devious scheme, simply because of some innocent electronic communications. You're both now on permanent, public record for shameful manipulation of the investing public, and I disavow any involvement! :x
