Now, "Desperate Housewives" - isn't that what all of america is like?
After listening to the interviews regarding the recent mad gunman (and i do feel very sorry for the family and friends of those killed/injured), and the NRA saying that gun control would not solve the problem, because if they did not have guns, they could have killed people with knives and baseball bats.
Quick - move to Australia before we close off our boarders. Owning a Mac shows such good judgement, immigration will certainly welcome you.

Stop whining about rules. Nobody forces you to live this way. The people that move into these neigorhoods with the garage door police are fully aware of it when they do so. If they don't like it, they are free to buy a home elsewhere.
Like it or not, these sorts of things actually do preserve property values and make for very nice looking neighborhoods.
It's very simple. Sign the covenant, move in, then live by the rules you've agreed to. Signing, then whining about it after you move in fails to raise even the slightest sympathy in me.
Decide later you don't like it? You're also free to move out and buy a place where you are free, if you wish, to keep old refrigerators on your porch and several dead vehicles as well as your Mac in the driveway. Please, just don't do it in my neighborhood.

Eric - driving around the new developments in our area proves to me a lot of people dont have any taste in houses...probably because they plan on moving out in 3 years anyway....Im working on my 4th project house for Mom this year, a 1940 4 BR colonial which was built by people proud to swing a hammer, plumb a pipe, or put on a roof - and it shows...every piece of material is top notch.

Rules
Yup, same goes for those snotty types that move into my neighborhood, they can see every other yard has a boat or motorhome in it before they buy, if they don't like the way we live they can move elsewhere. They have no right to impose their values on us after they move in, we were here first.Stop whining about rules. Nobody forces you to live this way. Funny, I don't see any refrigerators on porches or dead cars in my neighborhood, but I do see lots of high end expensive looking motorhomes and boats.Like it or not, these sorts of things actually do preserve property values and make for very nice looking neighborhoods.

Stranger yet we all have well kept manicured lawns (yup, me too) and well kept homes with late model vehicles in front. There are named subdivisions everywhere with newer recently built homes and boats, motorhomes, fifth-wheels and trailers in the driveways. None of these homes look derelict in any way shape or form, but instead, on the contrary, they look inhabbited by middle to high income earners that take pride in ownership of their homes and toys. I have a big blue shiny boat in my driveway, looks awesome!
It is like this because this neighborhood is out in the burbs, borders farming land and has a fishing boat port, it is a farming and fishing community of the past with subdivisions integrated into it. People live here because they like the relaxed nautical lifestyle it offers and the scenic surrounding farmland but most of all no rules.

This makes a lot of sense to me . Live where you like .Chip Hindes wrote:Stop whining about rules. Nobody forces you to live this way. You want snob hill and can afford it, do it. You can afford Snob Hill but prefer white trash car in yard door hanging by one hing instead, do it.
Dont want any rules, then move away from the rest of us , because most if not all people need rules.
You live on a farm or a ranch and its 3 miles to blacktop or a neighbor ? Park it anywhere you want. Your on a lot less tha say 300 feet wide , do as the majority do or have agreed to do.
I for one cannot even imagine you asking the question? Can I park my 26' BOAT in my Front Yard. Is that what you honestly feel the FRONT YARD IS FOR?
