We will be at Cuttyhunk pond MA

Week of June 25 Mon - Fri

Week of August 13 Mon-Fri

Mornings are occupied by sailing school for the girls, so we will be on the pond in the mornings, afternoons and evenings free.

Starting each week on the Sunday and leaving on Friday or Saturday, depending on when the Admiral can come down from work....which is paying for all this btw.

Thank God for Rosie the Riveter.......

PM or EM if you want to coordinate

AHOY FROM CUTTYHUNK

We are on our third day, but the first day Ive managed to turn my computer on since Saturday 8)

Only one scare so far, but it was a doozy....Ill write it up in the Main Board as it is worthy of a separate post...basically I woke up at 3am to find a foot of water in the boat (rear of sole completely filled!!!)

Very interesting run of emotions to experience and one really good take home lesson that got us safely out.....

Kids cant decide what they like more - sailing school or beach...we will just have to do both every day I guess..

We return to the Cape in two weeks

Post by Catigale »

Girls and I headed for the Cape on/about Aug 10 for a 7 day cruise including sailing school - Boston area sailors let me know if you want to try and raft up.

Catigale has

New batteries
Two auto bilge pumps plus two manual ones for the 'stringers'
Water tank under port berth instead of loose water bottles
New Igloo cooler fits under starboard table seat
All stuff except for the clothing bag stows in lockers or out of site

Hope to have hank on jib (extra forestay) mod done for the trip too.

North East Trailer Sailors will be in Allen Harbor RI Aug 10-12. You're certainly welcome to join in!
It's always a raft-up extravaganza!

We'll be in Cuttyhunk this weekend!

Didnt realise Allen harbor Rendezvous was that weekend - that would be worth trying to join up with NETS finally....

That would leave us a big crossing to Cuttyhunk though - something like 26 miles on open ocean...weather will have to cooperate to make that one.

I'm going to Cuttyhunk this weekend to meet up with the NE-TS group. I'll be following KayakDan across from Westport / Horseneck Beach and am looking for advice / tips for navigating the waters around Horseneck and anchoring in CH Pond. Thanks.

K9 - send me an email and I can fill you in with charts and stuff

1 You have to be really careful approaching CH from the South through the Canapitset Channel - with a SW wind you can easily get 6 foot rollers in a channel that is only 10 feet deep...lots of rocks to get knackered on.

2 The entry channel into the pond is narrow but fine for a Mac

3 Take a hard right as soon as you enter the pond (split the can and the nun ) - there is a good Mac anchorage on the NE corner of the pond which at MLLW is about 4-5 feet deep.

4 Its a fairly long row into the dinghy dock from there - a small outboard on a tender is useful.

Ill send you the beach map with the public beaches marked.

From Westport ,we will approach from the North, and avoid the channel.
I have a Brig ,with a 2hp Honda to buzz around in.
We'll be late arrivals,so all we have to do when we get in the pond is head towards all the Macs!

Thanks Cat - I've read that about the Canapitsit channel. I've also read about some cautions at the mouth of the river at Westport Point in a south wind, which is this weekend (NOAA).

Dan - Got your email. I've got a chart and Maptech's navigation guide. Am looking for stuff not in the books...
