Merry Christmas Eve and Holiday Season 2023 Everyone!
We sincerely hope everyone is having a Happy and Merry Holiday Season wherever you may find yourselves this time of year.
The year has again flown by us and here we find ourselves looking at the Christmas tree with a tangle of wires and lights and tinsel and various ornaments bedecking its boughs. The fireplace cackles with the familiar flickering flames and the Admiral is in the kitchen preparing an small feast for us and our older daughter who should be arriving any minute now... We are grateful for this very special time and for our opportunity to just be in the moment again.
This year we find ourselves in New Hampshire (NH) having come up from South Carolina (SC) a week ago. the trip up was in our "new to us" van. the trip was easy and relatively uneventful. we did try out the reclining back bench that converts to a bed of sorts. (Not all that bad but if we do this on a regular basis some more padding is gonna be needed

) we took there two removable captain seats out and left them in SC to allow for more interior space. That was a good move and made it much more comfortable for us and the pets. The only minor SNAFU was our 12 VDC Coleman Thermistor cooler fan seems to have reached its useful life point and started making whirred bearing noises. (Three years for $20 bucks at a garage sale...I'll have to find and order new ones once we get back to SC...Probably another $20 in parts

)
The weather here in NH is pleasant enough with clear skies and freezing temperatures... No SNOW though

which means I haven't had to dig out the snowblower and sand wagon as yet... (wonder where I put the shovels away to.....

)... When we left SC the temps were in the mid 60s to 70s as I replaced the cedar siding boards and painted the back exterior wall where we'd had the windows and patio doors replaced. really can get to enjoying the warmer souther weather!
Plan is to stay North to mid January before heading back South again until April where it will be back North again.
Meanwhile down there will be the obligatory Doctor visits that come from lasting beyond my "Best if Used By Date"

.
We finally hauled out Over Easy on the last day of November without any issues. It was a beautiful and long boating season for us starting in April...Eight Months on the water... November was very much a bonus month for us with many day trios and a cruise around Paris Island (~40 miles). This season we averaged two to three days a week out on the water with day trips out and about. a couple trips to Hilton Head and a week long Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) trip up to Charleston SC...two days up, three days there in Charleston Bay and two days back.. A great trip. makes us want to do more and go further afield expanding our horizons.
We did manage to accomplish some of the 2023 projects on our Southern "To-Do-List" such as:
= getting the polybutylene house plumbing changed out to PEX and the various fixtures replaced with new Moon fixtures that happen to be serendipiously on sale at Lowes
= removing several dozen cubic yards of the jungle vines in surrounding our property with the help of our wonderful neighbor and our lawn guy
= getting several rotten exterior windows and doors replaced that were long over due
= residing of the afore mentioned back exterior wall (the old siding sorta gave up with all the fussing of the windows and doors)
= getting out two or more time a week on our boat
= getting out on our first extended ICW trip
When we get back South between January and April there are still several house projects to attend to like:
- Swap out the Johnson 50 for our old Tohatsu 50 and replace the carbs and fuel pump for Scrambled our 15 foot 1991 runabout
- Clean, Prep and paint the upper deck and hull of Scrambled
- Exterior siding repairs
- Exterior house cleaning, priming and painting
- Interior house painting
- Interior flooring removal/replacement
- Exterior deck bench covering with TREX
- Two Exterior deck stairways
- Exterior deck edge skirting lattice installation
- and the long delayed kitchen tear out & renovation
Now while that is a huge(for me) "To-Do-List" I'll feel great if I can get even one or two of them done in this limited window... I'm generally happy making whatever progress I can
The current plan is to get back up North in April to focus on some major house projects up there:
- Make new footing, post and support beam for the rear exterior deck
- Remove & replace the exterior second floor balcony
- Remove, infill/level, add retaining walls and renovate the driveway and parking area (its currently a steeply sloped moonscape

)
- make retaining walls and add infill to level the back yard and add drainage control
- finish the started basement electrical and lighting project
We're going to be busy from April to September... Again the intent is to get as much as we can physically and financially accomplish... Ahh to be twenty something again
Getting back South in September we are planning on getting Over Easy back out on our local Southern waters. Trips back to Charleston SC, Savana GA and beyond on the ICW dance in our thoughts. (As well as the Southern TO-DO List

)
There are also the boat projects to enjoy such as making our mast Pintle pivot, New aft canopy arch, new anchor roller, new drum roller winch and finish up on the air purge of the ballast tank system and shore AC power interface/distribution/protection system. On another tack there is also the need to add a significant project to Clean/Prep/Paint the top deck as well as prepared and apply new bottom antifoul paint ( the prior one was applied back in 2021 and has had about 180+ months of regular use on Bothe salt/brackish/fresh water exposure along with over 300 engine operational hours... its time.
Well I've got to take a break for supper right about now.... To be Continued...
Hi, were back!
Wonderful supper with our older daughter who arrived with her beautiful 4 year old poodle who is sort of like a small kid most of the time. Joyous, curious and very loving. Smart too! (and yes, I'm biased

)
supper was a hearty fish/potato/leek New England Fish Soup and the Admirals Traditional Stuffed Clam Shells.... More to come later....(Just as well as I'm stuffed!

)
Most importantly I'd like to take a moment to express how grateful I am for the Gift of this MacGregor Sailor Forum and all the wonderful participants and sponsors. while one only has the moment one finds oneself in I am grateful Mohave been able to find and participate in this forum. there are so many experienced, knowledgeable, considerate and creative individuals here willing to share their experiences, insights and opinions constructively.
