Sailcote is what I usually use too, but it didn't work last time, so I broke out the big guns (teflon.) Sure is a lot messier but it did the trick. L.

Thanks for the spelling correction L.
I have noticed that the hole around my engine control bar is getting bigger.....
Could be a result of the added pressure required to move that big pig back and forth at high speeds.
I have noticed the bar pushing against the glass while steering.
Not the best design I have seen.
But then again.....

the squeak comes from the area that the steering bar enters the boat, what I did was make the holes a bit bigger and then added a nylon plumbing bush that fitted the hole and allowed the steering arm to travel without binding, this solved the problem runs very smoothly now
I purchased the pvc bits from the marine shop it comes in two pieces, once is the sleeve that you insert in the hole and the second is a large screw / PVC nut that you wind on inside the boat, this keeps it in place and is very easy to install

Used to use soap, then sailcote, still comes back in time but now the hole has expanded

and its not so bad anyway.

The squeek and the noise is the least of ya'lls worried.
When you hose off the boat or when it rains, water travels down the tube and into the bottom berth. Cushions, bedding, and other stowage including castaways like rats get soaked and wet.
I have been trying to figure out a seal for this bar but my brain is very very small.

Think there were a couple of mods for a seal on the bar and am sure Jack Sparrow has one.

I would love to create a water seal for that bar. It's a real bummer when water gets in there. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who likes a dry boat. Just can't figure out how it can be feasible without constricting its motion.

I used a "drip ring" off a kayak paddle for the seal-perfect fit. I split the ring, loaded the inside with 5200 to adhere to the bulkhead, then put some white grease on the steering shaft.
Of course I have no idea where you could get a drip ring seperately, and buying a kayak paddle seems a bit much, but you could try a kayak dealer. I have to believe something similar would work as well.
Lots of car restoration places sell all kinds of firewall grommets for wiring etc. Probably the best bet.
