Thanks for all the help and by all means keep it coming! BK I have an 05 M and could be in the Keys the 1st or 2nd week of Feb.
I will post here if I can, but I am not at all that sure about taking a $1200 lap top on the boat? Maybe there will be Internet Cafes in the Keys , like there is on Cozumel? I will post my departure from Port Charlotte a day or two before I leave.

Hey if you find $50K houses in the Keys, or anywhere in S. Florida for that matter, (that are habitable :| ) I will take a dozen :D :D :D

Sounds good. If you see an inflatable with a dodger and Bimini on it with 2 snorklers it is probably us. My big problem is breaking down the inflatable each day after use unless I find a RV park on the water and I can wheel the inflatable to the water each day. Maybe I can find a port with a dingy dock and I can just lock it to the pier.
On the $50,000 house in S Florida, I was also watching a bank repo auction show with internet access to bid and there were nice houses being sold at that price in S. florida. Have you ever been to Homestead just before the Keys? It is called the gateway to the Keys. It looks like an Ok, middle class, ranch house track type houses. That is where I am going to look first. I don't think anything in the keys is near that price but I will look around.

Thanks Daveb. I will check out that area. No way would I buy something without looking at the condition and location. $85,000 sounds great. Are these Cape Coral $85,000 houses near the water? It is a repo, at auction house or are they just selling at that price? I will look at the map for the city.

There are lots of deals in most of about 30 states right now. Its True some of the biggest and the best are in Florida, as they were hit the hardest.
I wont say you wont find a super deal a real steal but I would..... doubt it. Its not often the good stuff last long enough for the Average guy to see it.
Its a rental market now too btw. . .no home loans. . . lots of folks having to rent. Its too late tonight to go into all of it but surfice to say the real deals and real steals dont last on the market more than a few days a couple weeks max even now...
$85 K to $100K even $150K isnt going to buy much on the water anywhere. Maybe a pretty old pretty neglected cinderblock 3bedrm 1 bath w/Carport run down P.O.S. . .with a very dead lawn and numerous problems besides the trashy neighborhood and. . . . . a long float to open water...I dont know Cape Coral but I have been looking for awhile in the Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda area.
Boys there are some dang long floats down a lot of those canels... 1 2 and even 3 hours to open water ....They are microcosims of sociaty as well. :o
You can have a nice group of homes on this block and its all section 8 and welfar on the next . Best to Look, be smart, look numerous times before you buy. You'll pay taxes on no less than what it was worth a coupe years ago and that could be $2500 to $5000 Insurance on that pre 1998 home hahahahaa
$50K homes :D trailers maybe . . .Its like when I hear people talk about living in Mexico for $300 a month :D yea deep in the interior with a cinderblock pill box for a house with dirt floor and maybe no running city water and electricity only a few days a week. . .sure have at it you can go solar hahahahaa

We are starting to get a handle on our trip to the Keys. It looks like a go with the low gas prices in effect right now. If Wall Street does nor mess around with bidding up the price of oil again, the world will be OK. Greedy buggers there.
We are seeing the US on the way to the Keys and should be there in February or early March. I always wanted to see the Wild Animal Park in Tampa, the Johnson Space Center in Houstin and the JFK site in Dealy Plaza in Dallas. Any thing else on Highway 10 we should not miss?
BTW, I figuured a way to carry my 12 foot inflatable without breaking it down each day. I am using the Carry-All wire rack behind the RV to lay it down flat lenthwise. I will deflat the front and pull it back to make the boat 8 feet long. The RV is 8 and half feet wide so it fits. I will also deflat the inside tube to make it smaller and not stick out so far. A lot of planning for a big trip.

Yes sir it is . . I could have spent $3,000.00 and not have left my drive yet . I got blessed and I have spent less than 1/2 of that .
I still NEED an outboard 4 to 8 hp??? 2 smoke is the lightest and I have been hitting the gym two extra days a week just working both arms and shoulders on those 2 extra days. I dont want to drop, even a used outboard in the Ocean. . . :o More or less the only thing left to consider now is do I have the money in the kitty for a roller furler????

BK wrote:Depending on fuel prices (below $3- NATIONWIDE) we are taking our RV from LA to the Florida keys for this winter and 09' spring. I am not taking my Mac X as I have to drive in 3rd and get 6mpg. Also, my orginal 2000 trailer needs replacement. I am taking my 12 foot hypalon inflatable with a 6HP outboard. It goes up to 17 MPH. I am putting a canape on it and will expore the keys from shore each day and live in the RV. We also have a tent and cooler for overnight excursions in the inflatable. My wife and I are big snorklers. We can move down the keys and explore the whole area that way. I may buy a used Mac in Florida if I really like the place. I read that houses are selling for $50,000 there because of the crisis. Maybe I will see you guys down in the Keys. If I see a Mac I will stop by in my inflatable.
PLease do Mine will say Wind Wine & Song

Please carry an extra impeller and a way to remove a melted one. Sometimes the outboard is to far out of the water and the water does not get into the intake and melts the impeller.

Just something to watch for. Having some sail up helps.
