You may have the same Porta Potty I have, 5 gal. holding tank with air pressure water release.
Mine is just a porta potty and will do for 5-6 days without pumpout fittings.
If it does fill up (not yet) I will take to 5 miles offshore or take bottom to local bathroom or dumping station. I only sail Salt water and those sailing fresh water a good pumpout like Delevi would do good.
I Sail the keys often and never dump onboard waste, good to have a 5 gal.bucket with sealed container on board or overflow to put your waste in for extended cruises.
In the Keys at Biscane Bay not even gray water can be released (that means your sinks, overside releaf).
I should pratice what I preach!

I also have the 5 gallon dometic. its not installed yet, but I bought the stainless fill plate, and am now trying to figure out the venting situation. Some old sat at the local west marine was telling me that you can hook into the gas vent, and make sure to not have the vent forward because when sailing the smell will come along the side of the boat and you'll be smelling it all the time. if you place it aft, then wouldnt it just be venting close to the cockpit when at anchor? also thats a pretty long vent line isnt it?
Why vent the potty?? I didnt vent mine and it pumps from the deck or the Macerator just fine.
I do Keep a 1/4 cup of blue stuff in the holding tank and a cap full in the rinse tank and I dont have odor.. well I seldom do that is . When I do have odors it is because #1. boat had been sitting for a week or more in the summer closed up and #2. someone ....hummmmmmm wife and or grand-daughter has not closed the push slide cover all the way oin on the holding tank .
I have mine set up to allow my raw water / Lake or Ocean, pickup pump to fill / rinse the holding tank .
I could in a pinch, still hand carry mine out, but what the heck just power dump it in front of walmart after they close hahahaha

I saw two dogs that learned to poop on board a boat hahahaha one did it right on the deck!!! Hahahaha
but the smarter one actually leaned to poop over the side . Not always perfectly but dang good hahahaha true stories ! saw lots of dogs a few cats and One Beautiful Macaw , living on boats during my Florida Adventure.
the connection that comes with the pottie has a vent. i suppose that i could cap it temporarily. just to save cash on the install. its not like ill have enough methane in there to blow up my boat ever, id die from the smell first anyhow. i suppose the regs that require venting are written for large holding tanks that dont get dumped very often, and just got transfered over to small porti-potties. I suppose its not vented if you dont hook up the pumpout though anyhow is it?

Not sure which potty you have but it should have no less than two caps covering outlets / inlets on the back . Standard caps for plumbing are available at all the Big Big Hardware Stores .
Venting isn't a bad idea but so many have had greater odor problems since venting I chose not to vent. Venting enables pump out to operate more efficiently but as I am down stairs adding raw water to the tank when pumping out so as to better and more completely empty refuse .....I didn't feel the need to vent. Object is to keep that tank pumped out.... if you choose to let it sit for long periods of time , even just urine is going to get a bit overwhelming to say the least. Pump early pump often

a good fellow of mine, also owner of a has allways a big dog onboard. He was used to take his dinghy to row the dog to the next island for it´s affairs. After doing so for a period of time all by itself the dog started jumping into the water and was swimming to the land every time it felt the internal pressure . The dog wasn´t teached to do so, perhaps it commiserated with it´s lordling . Also it sounds unbelievable this is a true story. I havn´t seen it by myself but the fellow who told me that is a serious person.
We took our two dogs (one week in our house) to Cuttyhunk last year, and in two days the dogs figured out if they had to go they went onto the hard shell dinghy and went there. It was real easy to clean since it was all plastic. After a few days they settled into a go in the morning, go in the evening routine and never went on the boat or dinghy again.
