I also am looking forward to the finished product - I have two spare sails (a 160 and 110) from the old keel boats that I would like to use without having to have them recut for the mac - I just want to use a bigger fore sail, ego sort of thing - and they are for very very light winds - which seemed to be the run of my luck last season.

I will also make up a makeshift forestay & fly my mac26m Storm Jib from it also just to see what it looks like & give you some Idea , But the weather was very unco-operative today rained so G did not come down to work on his boat can't paint in the rain , so he went a boat parts shopping

Ok, now, I went back and forth from my place to John's all week. My boat is painted and in the water, Johns is, well, not.

The bow sprit looks great. Having issues finding just the right parts to finish the job 100%, but from my point of view, I could have it on my M and doing sea trials right now. But John, the engineer on the project, says the parts he had on it were for show only, and not strong enough......

I am at the mercy of the engineer.

My M is in the water, ready and rearing to go.

Last time I saw John, he was in his M tangled up in 2,000 feet of electrical wiring!

I swear, by the time he is done, if there is anything, and I mean anything, that he needs when he is on his M, I can guaranty you there will be a switch for that somewhere!

The guy has more switches on his M then the Titanic ever did!

Right now, after he reads this, he will be installing another switch. One that fires a missile at my M the next time we are on the water together!

Well lets see I'm coming down for 4 days , got to do # 1 bottom paint, #2 install lazy jacks, #3 install A/P , #4 install 20" wheel , #5 install gas tank retainers , #6 install some WIRING

Day #1 it rains , Day # 2 start sanding Hull , day #3 did I mention no paint on the Hull yet !! , but he did get the first coat on then ran out of paint ! then off to the big city of Barrie to buy more paint , second coat now on , day #4 lower boat off blocks finnish painting have a coffee then rush off to launch boat !!! then get ready for work the next day

Patience my friend is my greatest virtue !!!!
You see when my boat hits the water I'll be cruising , while your @ your slip still trying to install your mods !!!!, can do it 10 times faster in the drive way with everthing you need in the workshop

Not to mention, every single time I go down to the boat, while she sits in her slip on the water, I have every intention of getting work done on her......

......... but then I feel the breeze, look out at the lake........

This is BWY's Black Pearl's bow sprit for a 500 sq ft A-spinnaker http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm42 ... s08002.jpg a few years ago.

Looks like the Pearl's sprit is designed to articulate around 25 or more degrees. Should give tremendous performance. Not sure about adding sprit loads to forestay loads. I figure they would have plenty of beef beind that fitting.

Anyone care to take an educated guess about sailing angles with a 3' bowsprit? When flying the A-sail (no sprit,) the main will begin to blanket the chute at 135-140 degrees. How deep can one sail without blanketing with that 3' sprit?

Looks good and I can't wait, now I can finally buy the cruising Spinnaker.
I just recently discovered you have some competition from BWY. I was down at their shop getting a new spreader (2) and Todd had a prototpe of his own version of a bowsprit kit that he was going to take to the BWY Rendezvous to demo. His was a much smaller version than yours though, I think it looked about 18'-24" and it would pivot on the front anchor roller bolt and then be fastened down at the aft bolt in the anchor roller, of course the nylon roller had to be removed to do this. I believe he will be selling the setup including a hound for less than $100.00 or so he quoted at the time but I will watch and see. His is a much simpler version and does not appear to be as robust as your invention but I am sure it will sell.
