Terry,
Thanks for the tips. I will live with two speakers for right now...but I still need to figure out where I want them.
At what distance to the Flux Gate for the S1 will there be issues due to the "unshielded" issue?
Just out of curiosity how did/do you cut holes in the interior liner for things like speakers? Big hole saws? Drill a hole then cut with a dremel along a pre-drawn line?
I definitely plan to run my IPOD through this thing.
Cheers,
Jim

Big hole saws from Harbor freight - 5 USD for the set or something ridiculous like that. Run backwards at first to 'score' the gel coat.
Uh - oh...that could wrinkle the space-time continuum....hey will compete with each other when vibrating and moving air.

Re: Car Speakers
This is actually true, I read about it on a stereo install forum somewhere on the net and the explanation sounded very logical. The speaker cones vibrate back and forth in the frames and move a volume of air each time they move forwards and backwards. If they are both competeing for the same volume of air it will impact the quality of sound and distort the base sounds. There are more than enough cavities in a MacM to accomodate four speakers into seperate cavities.Kelly Hanson East wrote:Big hole saws from Harbor freight - 5 USD for the set or something ridiculous like that. I traced the hole size from some templates I made that fit the speakers, then used a hole saw to get things started, then used a dremel and file to cut the outer edges and avoid the chipping. Another consideration is the thickness of the fiberglass you are going to cut into. The thinner surfaces may not hold the screws for the speakers as well as a thicker surface will. The settee walls were thick enough that I did not need large washers to back the speaker with and that is only if you can access the back. On the forward bulkheads I had to just use self tapping screws and the little thingies they provide to hold the speakers in place because I had no access to get behind the speaker after I put it in place.
PS it is not too expensive to buy the standard jack to run the iPod to the Aux jack on the unit, Ithink I paid $10.00, but a thumb drive works good too. Keep in mind your iPod is MP4 so if you want to transfer them off your iPod and onto a thumb drive they must be converted back to MP3 format because the player is MP3 compatible.

Jim
I'm leaning towards installing the radio next to the D/B trunk S/B side above the front dining seat as close as I can get it to the D/B trunk to keep it as close to the center line as poss. so as I can point the remote control at it from the cockpit & change channels raise or lower or adj. the sound etc,
I'm thinking maybe install my front speakers here in the V-Berth where I now have deck plates installed when I installed my bowsprit , will hook up the speakers & sit them there to hear how they sound first ! thinking they should get a good boom box sound effect from their the front speakers can be faded out if someone is sleeping there

The rear box speakers I'm thinking of installing at the hatch way entrance one on either side then I can turn them as needed into the cabin or cockpit

Re: Car Speakers
I like the idea of the speakers on some sort of pivoting device near the hatch so they can be pointed into the cabin or out into the cockpit...but I think that is a bit too daunting of a project for now.
I will just have to get inside my boat and see what looks/sounds good.

I put two in the front of the boat (the obvious place when you look at an
and two in the cockpit - I think I threw some pictures in a cockpit locker mod in MODIFICATIONS forum...
