Our Mac is a 1999, and the fiberglass smell is still strong, especially when closed up in upper range temps. But, the odor somehow has an appeal, as someone already mentioned, it gives the aroma of a Boat Show.

Ditto that on my '02.

When I get whiff ashore......it brings me right back to my boat.

Sense of smell is one of the strongest in triggering a memory. Besides my kids, my boat is my fondest memory.

I hope LAIKA always keeps a trace of it!

Your kids must smell better than most

I drove to the factory to pick up my new 26 M in 2006. I could SMELL the factory two blocks before I could see it! The boat had a strong smell of fiberglass and sleeping in it on the 3 day return trip home almost made my eyes water. Now after using the boat, living in it, cooking in it, sleeping in it, the smell is gone replaced by the smell of rubber boots, wet foul weather gear, dirty fenders, candle smoke, spilled wine, and other assorted human scents

I agree, the smell of fiberglass reminds me of boat building as far back as when I was a kid fiber-glassing a patch on a rotten wooden rowboat. Listening to some of you made me want to run out to the boat last night and sniff the bilges. But if I really need a fix, I can always go out to the garage and open a can of fiberglass resin, put a little in a paper sack and huff a little. I'm sure this is known in the State of California to cause cancer.

Like new cars and new houses, there are manufacturing smells which are given off from materials used in the construction, most of which don't last very long, however, there is a small percentage of people who are highly sensitive to these.

P.S. I forgot to mention the smell of GUNKHOLE.

It is strange your boat has weird assorted human smells ours doesn't and the boats are the same age and we sail probably more than you, It must be the papermill smell where you sail. HAHA ARRGH

Brian...I tried to P.M., but it wouldnt submit. Anyway, I wanted to mention that last weekend we were touring local Kemah area marinas, and saw your prev "X" (Exodus) slipped at Watergate Marina. No mods done, but the boat looks good. I havent met the new owners.

Just thought you would enjoy knowing this bit of info.
