Has this thread been hijacked? Talk about pirates!. By the way, if you think it's time for reefer, it's probably too late. :P

I don't know much about the history of my boat, other than she was "rode hard, and put up wet"

When I bought her, she had been purchased by a guy that planned to repair the damage and sell her to make a profit. He was waiting for some ignorant , sucker to come along, that knew nothing about boats. That's when I showed up :?
He did a very poor job of patching to say the least. He seemed perplexed as to why I would pay his asking price for this boat; I found out later why. I wanted a sailboat way too badly.

The bow had been ripped off, probably from running head first into a low bridge and hitting the forestay. She had been left on a rotting trailer full of rainwater for years. I believe the owner that left her for dead had raced her in the St Petersburgh, Fl area, because the sails had numbers on them. I drove from Western NC down to Fl to pick her up. The trailer was so bad, I only got to Jacksonville before abandoning the idea of pulling her to NC. I went home ( NC ) and borrowed a flat bed trailer from a friend, went back down and winched the whole rotten mess up on it and drove it home. The rest is in the pictures. I kinda feel like the guy on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I brought an old abandoned racer back to life :D

It was a fun experience and although I payed way more than the boat was worth, and have put way more into her than I will ever get out of her, I wouldn't trade the experience for anything ! :)

Lots of cool/interesting stories. I am not a "reefer" person nor have I ever been so I don't have anything to add to that part of the story. I just hope my family and I get the chance to make some of our own history on this little sailor. Thanks for all the input!

You now know more about boats than MOST sailers. :) You and your crew should be very happy with the results you brought back from the DEEP. (IE on land) and gave life, sail safe and often. :) :) :)

The "reefer" jokes were fun, guys, but a story like Joe's is one to bring a smile of admiration to our faces.

Sail her with PRIDE!

by second wind too
That's a great story. You may have paid too much, but you brought a cool boat back from the brink of being in a landfill somewhere....good Karma. Hope you get many many years of great sailing from her. It may be appropriate to paint a BIG smile on the bow.

Really nice job JoeVacs!
What history does your boat come with?
Mine started life as extremely fine fibers of glass..... :) :) :)
