That's a sad waste of a "good old boat" ...... I really can't believe you did that !
( honestly... I know it was yours, and none of my business, but , gee whiz... )
Yes..that was a nice looking boat. Too bad it had so much damage.Catigale wrote:RIP, little boat..

I salvaged just about every last washer from the Seafarer, broke out the Sawzall and hauled the rest to the dump. The keel was in terrible shape and considering it weighs around 900 pounds, it was really just a matter of time and a little stress and it would have departed the hull. I tried to get some pics after cutting away the sole but they didn't show the damage very well.
Now its time to get about the business of the Mac 22 restore.
No poroblem man. I wasn't tryin to "get in your face" or anything, it just seemed like a waste, that's all. BTW if you will look back at the 5th post in this thread, you will see that I DID make you an offer and asked you to PM me. Sorry if I upset you with my remarks.72Mac22 wrote:I guess I haven't been clear on this. The Seafarer's keel was broken. Don't know how, when where or why but it was. I didn't break it and I don't know who did. In my opinion, if it could have been fixed and fixed correctly without thousands of dollars spent and hundreds of hours worked, I would have pursued it. I stated earlier that I would much rather have had the sailing characteristics of the SF22 but as it stands, I still have a very viable sailing craft in the Mac 22 with many high quality parts that will be transplanted if you will, from the dying craft.
The trailer and boat have both been on Craig's List for about a week with no takers. Since you think this was a waste of a good boat and you hate that I did this, you should have at least sent me a message that you were interested in rescuing the boat as it were. I would have gladly sold you the striped hull and and deck and even stored it until you could get it.
I did due diligence in researching and soliciting opinions on my options in this situation and the overwhelming majority were in support of just what I did. I fly airplanes for a living and it always kills me when I think of all the vintage WWII aircraft that were scrapped just for their materials. That indeed was a waste from a pilot's point of view. If an airplanes spar is cracked then your faced with the same type of scenario that I was faced with. Do I remove the wing, rivets, skin, ribs, wiring etc, and rebuild a completely new structure or do I salvage parts and scrap the rest. If she is a million dollar P51 Mustang the answer is yes but the SF22 was no P51. In my world of limited funds, time and skills, I did what I had to do. Sorry you didn't like it.
Admittedly, that was an exaggerated example, but I was making a point.....ChockFullOnuts22 wrote:Come on, man, a Venture 222 is a little better than being compared to a Ford Granada.

Uh oh, I shouldnt have done that??That's like chopping up a 1963 Corvette to use parts on a 1978 Granada ! .... dang I hate that you did that....
