Thanks for all the replies! Is there any special brand of anti-fouling bottom paint or epoxy undercoat that's better or easier to use ??

The "need" for epoxy barrier coat and anti-fouling is driven by how you store your boat more than how you use it. Most Mac owners, that store their boat on its trailer, don't coat/paint the bottom. Those that have their boats in the water, in a slip or on a mooring ball, for extended periods of time tend to coat/paint the bottom. Please note that some people have done nothing other than apply wax to the bottom and have never have a problem. Some of us did.
I didn't coat/paint the bottom the first year that I kept the boat on a mooring. The bottom developed a bad case of mini-blisters. The bottom had the look & feel of a football. I sanded/prepped the bottom and used Interlux's Interprotect 2000E for the epoxy barrier (two gallons, four coats). Since I was using a slip the next year, I put on Pettitt's Vivid (hard finish, multi-season, for boats that get pulled and trailered) as the anti-fouling coat.
Fair winds and keep the pointy end up.
