Thanks for all the replies! Is there any special brand of anti-fouling bottom paint or epoxy undercoat that's better or easier to use ??

Welcome to sailing and the Mac world.

The "need" for epoxy barrier coat and anti-fouling is driven by how you store your boat more than how you use it. Most Mac owners, that store their boat on its trailer, don't coat/paint the bottom. Those that have their boats in the water, in a slip or on a mooring ball, for extended periods of time tend to coat/paint the bottom. Please note that some people have done nothing other than apply wax to the bottom and have never have a problem. Some of us did.

I didn't coat/paint the bottom the first year that I kept the boat on a mooring. The bottom developed a bad case of mini-blisters. The bottom had the look & feel of a football. I sanded/prepped the bottom and used Interlux's Interprotect 2000E for the epoxy barrier (two gallons, four coats). Since I was using a slip the next year, I put on Pettitt's Vivid (hard finish, multi-season, for boats that get pulled and trailered) as the anti-fouling coat.

Fair winds and keep the pointy end up.

Welcome

I have sailed in Ontario since 1980.

Camped in about 50 different parks.

Have seen countless lakes.

We are so very lucky to live in this beautiful area.

My favorite sailing / boating would have to be Georgian Bay and the Muskoka area.

With the ability to trailer around, you can explore many locations. If you are new to this whole thing, take it slow and be aware of the ever changing weather conditions. These great lakes can get a bit rough, or worse.

This summer I have chosen to leave my M on her trailer. My kids and partner are not into the whole sailing thing, so I could not justify the cost of a slip when I was the only one interested in sailing, and therefore hardly got out that often.

I hope to meet up with the gang again this summer at Highlanders doc, Meaford Ont, on Georgian Bay. I will be on Lake Ontario a few times as well.

Fair winds
