is faster because:
3' taller mast with larger main; rotating mast (when it rotates as advertised); blue hull provided it is waxed and shiney.

is cheaper 'cause it is old; usually still has old blown out Doyle sails; doesn't have a mongo mirror on the bulkhead and most have old school carbed 50hp OBs. Extra $$$ for upgrades required.
You can make an

sail faster by getting a set of KH C2000 sails and paint a blue boot (water line) stripe on the hull.
Both boats will sail with their DB/CB up in thin water. a CB will swing off the bottom, a DB can run aground.

is a faster motor boat but both boats beat the cr-p out of you in heavy chop--exceeding 8knts for any length of time is tough on rigging and crew. The

has a slightly smoother ride since it has a deeper V bottom.

Another difference is the cockpit, larger on the X, more comfortable. The cabin in the M feels more roomy to me. I've never used the head in an X but it seems to have more "head room" then my M.

There are skipper's that will beat you in their "M".
The same skipper can sail your "X" and beat his "M".
The only way to learn how to sail to the best of your
boat's ability, is to race in a club.
Otherwise, your a cruiser, which is no bad life either.

Doesn't matter.......both are slow ...so what.....its the total concept that's a winner....trailerable,huge inside, water ballast etc etc....may not be perfect but a good compromise
